Was just trying to point out that test machines are faulty in that they arent testing in the proper environment. Also many tests when a part fails the test you know its bad, but if it passes you dont know. A bad part can still test good. If your diagnosis leads you to believe its a certain part many times the only way to rule it out is a swap. It's whats known as replace with a "known good part" And yes.. that is how its actually written in the service manuals. Like we all have a pile of known good parts for every car we work on. I always liked Honda telling me to replace the ecm with a known good part. Rolling Eyes

Anyway, I knew I shouldnt have posted that way to begin with. I'd help further but honestly I make a shitty internet technician. Especially with something I don't remember ... like this.

Btw does it backfire once or continuosly? And does it do this every time? Does it run fine up until that point?

god i love internet wrenching lol its all just a shot in the dark, id say use a good icm to swap and test and go from there, if it works sweet, if not then keep diagnosing it til you figure it out but the autozone test isnt the best thing in the world as people have pointed out, not to mention most of those guys are minimum wage lackies who cant tell their ass from a torque wrench

But it added my comments like you said them.. then it wouldnt let me correct that.. finally i tried to delete and it erased your post..

Except when I tried to fix it, it said I can't edit because it wasnt my own post. Also same time it was giving me fits, one of mike's posts disappeared. There was some kinda hiccup.

Update: replaced icm with a brand new one. It ran slightly better until twenty mins ago when I was driving it and it completely died. The ses light never went away and it still backfired occasionally under load. According to my scan tool it still is throwing the same code 43...fml

Okay well we know the icm is good so that leaves the knock sensor, check to make sure its not loose, the wiring going to it is snug and in good shape, I don't. Know how connectors fare up here but when I was in az I was replacing a new one every week from them getting brittle, and last resort swap the sensor, before you do that check your est wire, the brown one you disconnect to adjust your timing, if there is a fault in the wiring there it will pop code 43 and act as if there is a knock, check the whole circuit, maybe its just come unpinned from its plug and isn't getting a good connection
