i have been having problems today getting it to rev past 3000 rpm and when it gets close to that it feels like its hitting a wall and it backfires.
whats the best way about fixing this problem? im trying to sell the car and obviously i cant sell it without it running properly.
my scan tool thing that i have says it is the electronic spark control module or sensor. and when i called autozone/schucks/baxters they say their computers dont show any listings for that part...i need to get this straightened out asap.
any suggestions, or has anyone had this problem before? _________________ gas brake dip dip |

Isn't it the icm in the dizzy you replace or this one? I've got an extra one if you wanna give it a shot, I was gettin 43 when I was in az and I just swapped it out, not a thing since. Its out of an 88 firebird I never tested it but I've just kinda collected parts over the years.
Also I've heard if you're using a high octane gas it will throw it as well, my dad wanted to drive my car when I was in ft jackson so he put 91 octane in with more octane booster to "freshen it up" too bad it causes predetonation lol
Hope you get it fixed _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

High octane shouldn't cause it to detonate. You can runn 100 octane race gas, it just won't make as much power as 87 octane |

That was just my experience with it, car ran pretty bad, kept throwing codes it was fine after I filled up with 87, anyway if you wanna give that a shot I could dig it out for you, its what like a 3 min deal to replace?
As far as the knock sensor goes I remember someone saying to unplug it and try to run it but that seems too simple maybe someone can chime in with a better answer _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

Yo man, I'm just saying if some kid calls up and says his Chevy wont rev for beans and is throwing a code for a bad module, you should probably be able to look up a frigging Chevy module. |

Oh no I mean good luck with finding parts guys that know remotely anything. Just like any job nowadays, they're getting hideously diluted with people that don't really care.
And yes, I agree. It should be fairly easy.

Well I had the icm tested at autozone and it came out good. So what now? Replace the knock sensor? _________________ gas brake dip dip |

I was under the impression that, like bench testing a coil, it has something to do with the ambient temperature of an Autozone store, versus that of the interior of a distributor cap.
Of course that may just be the beer thinking for me. |

| Ya.. temp has a big thing to do with it. Also I'd say duration of the test. |

Hey chevymad, I appreciate you making feel like an idiot, but I'm trying to find solutions to my problem. I thought this was a website dedicated to that. If I'm wrong please correct me. _________________ gas brake dip dip |

Hey man, we're all trying to help you out here. If we're coming across as smartasses... that would probably be because we are smartasses.
Buy a new module; a good one, not a Chinesium crap. |
