What's that piece called that goes on the driveshaft towards the back I think.
Mine is totally gone
Its rubber with like 2 bolts and keeps the drive shaft from slamming into the metal when you put the car in gear. _________________ -Donald

Nothing goes on the driveshaft. There is a slip yoke hooked to the shaft with a U-Joint then a u-joint at the rear that couples it to the rear end yoke. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

You don't spend much time under the car do you?
I think your talking about the transmission mount, it's under the transmission, just forward of the driveshaft. |

well, am i no expert, but it is kind of hard to find something that is not there.
a shop told me what it was a long time ago, i think i would of remembered a transmission mount, but idk, I'll look at it
i thought he said something about around the drive shaft, but all i really remember was that you had to go to the dealership to order it and it was like $70
aren't transmission mounts cheap?
and it just clunks every time i put it in drive or reverse, like there is slack somewhere in the line where something is suppose to make it all tight, or cushion it when it twists.
--haha, idk if that helps at all. _________________ -Donald

If it clunks when you put it in gear... how about also when you take off real hard?
It would either be your torque arm mount... or transmission mount.
Neither you have to get from the stealership. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

Find a jack, a 2x4, two stands, and something to use for wheel chocks.
Block the back wheels, and jack the front. Support the front with stands and remove the jack.
Find the transmission pan. Looks behind it to find the rubber mount. Throw the 2x4 on top of the jack, and slowly jack under the trans pan. Watch the mount and the tranny. If the mount begins to separate and the tranny begins to lift, you found your problem.
While you're under there, check your u-joints for movement too. Just grab the driveshaft near the front and try to move it.
BTW, from your description my money is on the mount. It's a $22 part. Print out the Summit Racing page with the price for the Energy Suspension mount, and take it to the Schmucks warehouse in Lakewood. They will pricematch it, and they should have it in stock. |

Tranny mount or a U-joint will clunk. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

I vote tranny mount. mine used to do the EXACT same thing. it was cuz i had one of them "2 piece tranny mounts"
they are mushy rubber ones from the factory and are most likely worn out by now and should be replaced anyway.

i can move the driveshaft.... but i think its loose in front of the front u-joint.
but the sound looks like its coming from the torque arm mount, thanks!
and aaron,i am assuming you were talking about the transmission mount with the price match? _________________ -Donald

Torque arm mount can fail too. It will cause the shaft to bang around in the bracket. Energy Suspension makes that piece as well, although it's harder to find, and takes a little grinder work to install properly.
Did you jack the trans at all to see if it moved up easily? I'd tell you to bring it over so I could check it, but my roommate decided to move back to Arizona, so I am temporarily without a shop. |

i pushed up on the trans, haha, that mount seemed alright, but the torque arm was all messed up, it goes up and down, banging the top and bottom making a noise, which i think is my problem!
i am assuming the rubber should make a box around it, but the top and bottom are gone.
it is like $20 at auto zone, and it would take like 3 days to get there, i will check out that warehouse in Lakewood.
can i bring in one from hawks?
http://www.hawksthirdgenparts.com/camarofirebird82-2002energysuspensiontorquearmmountbushing.aspx
its only $14.99 there!

@ Donald, go down to Bruce Titus and talk to Ian, I seem to recall him having some line on ES stuff.
And yes, the same roommate. Lost my part time job, and my place.
@ Rodney, that's cause you did like the cool kids, and relocated yours where it belongs. |

I've never broken one of those but I've heard of it happening. I believe they sell you an entire new piece including the metal. I have one here that's a stock replacement at least. See if you can find urethane inserts? _________________ E30

Hey! It's Titus Will now! Get it right! I've got the black version at my warehouse. ~$13.40 pt# 3.1111G The one from ES is JUST the bushing. Like mentioned you have to grind out your old one. Simple, really.
Actually, with the buyout I'll be able to get ahold of a LOT more stuff. Tires and wheels now, too. _________________

Warehouse in Auburn. I can usually just have my driver go pick it up same day type of thing. And no I don't make you pay for it before I get it here. As long as you're at least pretty sure you'll need it. If not, I can just ad it to the wall of performance stuff I'm making. |
