What's that piece called that goes on the driveshaft towards the back I think.
Mine is totally gone

Its rubber with like 2 bolts and keeps the drive shaft from slamming into the metal when you put the car in gear.

Nothing goes on the driveshaft. There is a slip yoke hooked to the shaft with a U-Joint then a u-joint at the rear that couples it to the rear end yoke.

If it clunks when you put it in gear... how about also when you take off real hard?

It would either be your torque arm mount... or transmission mount.

Neither you have to get from the stealership.

Find a jack, a 2x4, two stands, and something to use for wheel chocks.

Block the back wheels, and jack the front. Support the front with stands and remove the jack.

Find the transmission pan. Looks behind it to find the rubber mount. Throw the 2x4 on top of the jack, and slowly jack under the trans pan. Watch the mount and the tranny. If the mount begins to separate and the tranny begins to lift, you found your problem.

While you're under there, check your u-joints for movement too. Just grab the driveshaft near the front and try to move it.

BTW, from your description my money is on the mount. It's a $22 part. Print out the Summit Racing page with the price for the Energy Suspension mount, and take it to the Schmucks warehouse in Lakewood. They will pricematch it, and they should have it in stock.

I vote tranny mount. mine used to do the EXACT same thing. it was cuz i had one of them "2 piece tranny mounts" Laughing

they are mushy rubber ones from the factory and are most likely worn out by now and should be replaced anyway.

Torque arm mount can fail too. It will cause the shaft to bang around in the bracket. Energy Suspension makes that piece as well, although it's harder to find, and takes a little grinder work to install properly.

Did you jack the trans at all to see if it moved up easily? I'd tell you to bring it over so I could check it, but my roommate decided to move back to Arizona, so I am temporarily without a shop. Rolling Eyes

I've never broken one of those but I've heard of it happening. I believe they sell you an entire new piece including the metal. I have one here that's a stock replacement at least. See if you can find urethane inserts?

Warehouse in Auburn. I can usually just have my driver go pick it up same day type of thing. And no I don't make you pay for it before I get it here. As long as you're at least pretty sure you'll need it. If not, I can just ad it to the wall of performance stuff I'm making. Very Happy
