Ok, been talking about the project. This is the biggest project I have ever done on a car, so I'm making a running post. Then you can make fun of me when I say I'll never do this again
First spot. Turned out to be larger then I thought, it rusted back to between the seems in fenderwell. I have decided to wait to finish this tell I have the fender and outter section of the fenderwell off. I also decided to night to extend my patch higher due to that bubbled section to the top and left. I have just enough to go that exact height.
Spot two, this is how it started.
Where I am tonight. Will cut patch tommorow.

Most Midwest cars (Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, etc) don't even make it that long. My first car in Michigan was 6 years old when I bought it and the rear wheel wells were rusted through to the trunk. Any place they liberally use salt in the winter time to melt ice is not very car friendly. _________________ 92 Camaro

| I'm from Iowa, so I'm use to it. When I was younger I use to watch dad fix rust spots on cars still under the factory warranty. |

| Not sure about oregon, but washington state started using regular salt on the roads this year. They used to use a de-icer, which was a different kind of salt, or gravel.. but the de-icer was killing trees and birds.. and the gravel is "too expensive" |

yea, I'm putting a whole new skin on it, as well the outter half of the fenderwell.
I decided after finding 6 rust spots in the fender, I would rather replace the whole thing and do it with little to no external visable spots of work. Only 2 spots should be visable when I'm done... about a 1" spot at the rear below the spoiler. Then in the pass door jamb area. Rest should be behind gfx, taillights, bumpers, spoiler, or in the fenderwell.
I am also cutting off half of the rear body panel... after I tack the quarter in place. |

You're a mad man. So you are not replacing the rear section? The new piece looks pretty good, are you getting the fit nice and tight? |

I started cutting off the rear section last night. I didnt want to cut to much out at once and loose propper angles. Good news, the right frame horn is still all solid
The door gap there isnt to my statisfaction, but I f'd with it for about 3 hrs and couldnt get it better then what you see. The seam in the fenderwell is gapped a little also Hopefully when I weld I can pull it together and make it work. |
