iv been thinking that i would like a manual camaro instead of the boring auto but iv been wondering if its worth the time money or effort.so i just wanted to know what all was involvd in the swap and how hard it is to do.and around how much is it going to cost.or if it would be better to get another thirdgen cause i could always go for 2 Very Happy

Do eeet!

You'll need the 5-speed trans, bellhousing, crossmember, pedals, shifter, shift plate, clutch, flywheel, hydraulics(master and slave cylinder) and associated bolts.

And I believe you need to cut a large square one in the floor for the shifter.

You don't need a new crossmember. Just buy an energy suspension transmission mount and you should be set.

Its not too tough to do. I'm sure between crew members we might have just about all the parts to do it too!

Paul, if he can't even get a drivers liscense yet, I don't think they'll sell him beer. Laughing

That said, if he doesn't mind everyone coming over and getting drunk, I'm sure we can get it together fast.

Might be cheaper to get another car with body damage with a 5 speed in it. Then you'll be sure to have all the parts! I'm sure you can pick up a trashed 5sp for way under $1k. Especially if they don't know what they have.

"under 1000" might not be cheaper. i bought a transmission, brand new clutch, brand new starter, and all the support hardware and it came in at less then $750. and that was a centerforce clutch too. if i had to do it again i'd go with a spec.

there is a part everyone seems to have missed... a starter. the automatic starters have a different nose cone then the manual starters. you can snag a junkyard nose cone, ands swap, or you can go out and get a new starter. a high torque mini starter sounds cool. Smile

I think its easier to have a donor car beside your car so you are good to go with no unnecessary trips to the JY. Maybe my opinion is skewed though. We don't have any junkyards up here! The two closest yards are over an hour away.

i have to drive about thirty minutes. my swap took three days, if we had a donor car it would have taken two... maybe two late days. if i had known in advance that my used clutch was a bad idea it would have been two shorter days. i also should have had the flywheel resurfaced in advance.

but these are all things you overlook when Paul says "hey, lets put your transmission in this weekend"

a donor car is great. i'm sure there would be many other parts you could strip off of it as well to offset the cost of buying a whole other car. and if it runs and drives you can test your transmission before you install it. this will allow you not to end up with one that won't down shift into third.... Crying or Very sad
