Still searching for the piece(s) I need to get the Trans hooked up and back together...Are either of these what I need? (this is for my 82 w/ a mechanical speedometer cable)

are you sure its not a 2.73 fish?

did you pop the diff cover and look at the ring gear? GM gears have numbers. Formula for figuring the gear ratio is pretty simple.

The gear will usually Say "GM 11:41" or "GM (insert part number) 11:41"

What the equasion comes out to is this 41 ring teeth/11 pinion teeth=3.727272 = 3.73 rear ratio.

well...i just looked at the build sheet (didnt take anything apart). the code on the sheet reads GW9 and it is listed as 293 Ratio Axl

Those are the proper bullets. But you need to know how many teeth that plastic gear in the trans has, and exactly what your rear end ratio is, and the size of your tires. Once you have all this there are online calculators to tell you how many teeth the driven gear needs to have.
