Time for a good tune up before dyno.
what kind of plugs should i run? wires? is there a big difference between name brand expensive wires and regular autolites besides colors?

ac delco plugs. i really like Taylor wires. i have had a set on my v6 car for about three years now. they are competitively priced if you don't get the 10.4MM size.
whatever wires you go with get the "cut to fit", pick out a routing solution (over valve covers, whatev) and then cut them to fit said solution. make your engine bay look good. _________________ 86' firebird (Junked in 2015). 88' GTA (sold in 2020).

i would most definately go with some ACdelco plugs or NGKs and for wires delcos or if you want to get some really nice ones get some MSD superconductors but theyre spendy, i would try to avoid any set of wires that are cheap i really like the napa ones theyre really good quality. _________________ Cadillac of Bellevue

I didn't used to like Autolites, but I've had superb results with them on 3 different cars.
Check the condition of your cap/rotor/coil and replace or clean those as necessary too. A new air element, and some fuel system cleaner might help too. _________________

Taylor Wires, Summit Wires, Crane Wires.
Summit = Taylor wires.
I like the Autolites. They work and they're cheap.
Tried others, nothing seemed to do any better. Plus the autolights Hex section for tightening sticks out of the head farther, which my aftermarket heads need.
As for the number... I run Autolite 25's with an MSD box/coil. They don't seem to be too hot for me. |

so is around $55 for the wires a good set? or is that still high, too low? i haven't bought plug wires before.
Also spark plugs, there are some for like 8 bucks per plug?!?! I shure hope you guys weren't talking about these! i'm thinking more like $2 per plug, is this a good estimate?

| You want the plain old cheap copper type plugs. NGK, Autolite, Delco most anything except bosch and champion. Price for the plug wires sounds ok. Like paul said the summit stuff is the same wire as taylor but with cheap boots. The napa belden wire isnt bad, and they've actually upgraded their regular stock type wire to what used to be their performance wire. Only wires I've had bad luck with were accell and msd. |

That's about what I paid for the wires I have, I need to look and see what brand they are (I forgot ), but they were fully assembled and included the coil wire, unlike the cut-to-size wires Tony is referring to. My plugs are good ole stock AC Delco. NGK plugs seem to do well for me also. _________________ 92 Camaro

Also, how do you determine how much of a gap you should have on your plugs?

Carb and HEI should be about .040 or .045
Alot of the thirdgen gap from the factory is .035
I have aftermarket ignition and gap at .045 |

Delco plugs all the way on GM rides.
Wires, unless you have a hotter then stock coil, standard good brand counter wires are fine.
If you have Accel, MSD, hypertech coil, then you need some better wires like Taylors, MSD, etc. |

au contrair...
Autolites on GM rides have proven numerous satisfactory results on multiple tunes.
I tried delcos on my former 350, no bueno. Ended up with autolite 24's on all 8 cyl's and had a good running ride. _________________

Ive tryed them, they seem to work like any other plug. No advantages that I noticed. Now I did run them in my dodge.
Champions didnt seem to last as long.
I was told never stick bosch plugs in a gm ride. So I havent. |

+1 to that. From personal experience. I wouldn't use an iridium plug either. you'll get less spark out of them. Good for forced induction though as I believe they run colder and help with detonation. In all honesty, I wouldn't run anything but a standard plug on a stock to mild street engine. I have NGK V-powers. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S
