i know there's been discussion before about the power ant that some of us have. what i've heard, it that the "universal" ones don't really fit our cars.
can somone tell me what i need? Confused

crap....

the problem with it is the actual antanae that sticks up through the fender....it's not there! well there's a piece about 8" that sticks up, but the rest of its gone.

I used a universal. Between $30-$40 IIRC. Simple to remove the old and install the new. Access through plastic cover inside the wheel well.

Cheap and easy. You could remove the old one first to compare to the dimensions of whatever unit you pick up.

i'm replacing the fenders next weekend, so i figured i would fix it while they're off.

go to the junkyard and get a fixed antenna. then mount it under your dashpad. like this:

or you can go to any car audio shoppe and get a "marine antenna". this is ment for boats and such, it is two wires that you stretch out under your dash. these do not quite work as well. then you are left with a hole in your fender. this is where i currently am with both cars. theory is that you would then weld the hole shut, smooth it out and paint it.

Shaved is neat, but the power anntenae is the way to go for best of both worlds. I hate static on my radio.

i noticed ZERO change in my reception when i put my whip under the dash. i DID notice a decrease when i switched to the marine antenna. next time i hit the junkyard i will snag a stock antenna mount.

a couple things...

if i put the ant under the dash pad, it doesn't have to be a stock one right? i mean, since it's not going in the fender, it doesn't really matter how it mounts, does it?

also, this might sound stupid, but how does it hook up? i know there's teh little plug in that goes in the back of your radio, but if i get an aftermarket fixed ant, is that all it has? i would imagine a power one has more (for power) but i like the idea of having a clean fender, but at the same time no static. i hate static! Rolling Eyes

Any aftermarket fixed antenna should have the normal universal line and fitting. A power one will have leads for 12v, remote, and ground.

For what it's worth, I like my stock power antenna for looks and usability, so I would stick with that.
