| I have been getting ECM codes 32 and 42 for the last couple of weeks. Seems I have fixed the code 32 with a new EGR valve. Code 42 (Electronic Spark Timing) still wants to show up. All of my ignition parts are new, so I am stumped as to what else can cause this error. |

Make sure that the EST connector... not sure where it is on your rig... is plugged in. Single wire, usually brown with a black stripe, used for setting the base timing with a timing light.
So when you guys timed it, make sure that's plugged in. For starters. |

| Thanks, but that's the first place I looked. Besides, when it's unplugged, my tach reads zero rpm. |

My tach reads 00 when I disconnect the tach pick-up to the coil (white wire). My EST (tan/black stripe) wire is by my A/C box. Today I removed the distributor to replace the leaky o-ring, making sure to mark the rotor and the shaft when I pulled it out. When I replaced it, I was not able to set the timing, ran like ****. Idle is all over the place and backfire through the intake. Still the only code is 42. I figure either I am on the wrong mark on the harmonic balancer or I have a faulty distributor, I'll find out tomorrow. |
