I have been getting ECM codes 32 and 42 for the last couple of weeks. Seems I have fixed the code 32 with a new EGR valve. Code 42 (Electronic Spark Timing) still wants to show up. All of my ignition parts are new, so I am stumped as to what else can cause this error.

Make sure that the EST connector... not sure where it is on your rig... is plugged in. Single wire, usually brown with a black stripe, used for setting the base timing with a timing light.

So when you guys timed it, make sure that's plugged in. For starters.

Thanks, but that's the first place I looked. Besides, when it's unplugged, my tach reads zero rpm.

My tach reads 00 when I disconnect the tach pick-up to the coil (white wire). My EST (tan/black stripe) wire is by my A/C box. Today I removed the distributor to replace the leaky o-ring, making sure to mark the rotor and the shaft when I pulled it out. When I replaced it, I was not able to set the timing, ran like ****. Idle is all over the place and backfire through the intake. Still the only code is 42. I figure either I am on the wrong mark on the harmonic balancer or I have a faulty distributor, I'll find out tomorrow.
