ok im getting ready to rip this firebird all apart here in a week or so, i got the 2.8 and the 5 speed sold and im about ready to drop the 383 in and the th350. But since im going carb, what all wiring can i rip out? its a basic car no options. anyideas would be cool. also has anyone ever put aftermarket gauges in a third gen firebird? looks like a camaro would be easy. and anyone have anypics of that? Thanks guys
Nathan

Are you going to retain the computer to control the timing, or are you going with a mechanical dizzy?

if there is no computer you can remove any and all sesor wires under the hood that are not for guages, or power accessorys (lights, horn, wipers etc...) is this a street legal driver or a race only application? are you keeping your interior? we need more info? are you doing any other engine bay clearing modifications?

its pretty much a race car that im going to limp around on the street in, it will have most of the int, but i want to figure out how to put aftermarket gauges in, it will have all lights, heater. no ps or ac. just the bone stuff to keep it dot legal. it will have a 8 point cage. and the heater and all that stuff might come out later. just need to get it down to what is really only needed.

I am also doing the same thing with my car. I want to take out the computer also, but i wasn't sure if the gauges would work without it. What exactly does the computer do?

Even if you don't have a single sensor in the engine, doesn't the computer control the lockup speed via the VSS?

my car had a t5 trans, but i am putting in my th350 with a trans brake in the car. so it has no lock up. so pretty much do i just need to strip the org wiring harness apart and pick apart the crap i dont need or should i just rip it all out and rewire it all for the engine? and just keep the wires going to the head lights and all that. i have to do a bit of wiring anyway but i hate doing wiring stuff lol.

Well, if you're going to gut it for weight reduction anyway, it might actually be easier than picking apart the harnesses. It will depend alot on how bare-bones you're going to run it:

The body harness and computer harness were pretty well mingled in my old 87. It took a little bit of choice cutting to get down to just the computer harness. Have a wiring diagram? Just pick a wire, trace and cut as neccesary. Smile
