Well,
I got my sons Christmas list, and the number one thing is,
#1 Electric cutouts. (Its a kid thing)
1. So I have a couple questions:
Does it really make enough turbulence in the exhaust with it closed to affect gas mileage?
2. They look a little bulky is it tough to find a spot and orientation to mount?
3.which one should I buy? summit?
Thanks

I put mine in place of where my cat went, it is flanged exactly the same as the cat, so it is interchangable.
I have noticed no negative effects with it close, and I picked up about 10rwhp with it open on the dyno.
Both Paul (twilightoptics) and myself have the McCord Power Plate, after about a year, we both notice rattling on them, it seems like some things loosen up, and it rattles a bit after some time. Paul found a solution with some silicon goop, I haven't done it with mine yet.

You can fit em. it's easy. If your exhaust is a restriction, then it will help, otherwise it's just for noise.
Doesn't effect milage at all.
The McCord Power Plate is still the best, reguardless. The butterflies loosen a bit. It just needs some silicone around the edges. If you get one, and it does that, I'll walk you through it.
http://www.mccordcg.com/mpp/mpp.htm Comes with switch, led, wiring, etc etc. |

Never heard of one myself. Thought they all went from 3" > 4".
With a 3.5" exhaust, you wont need a cutout unless your mufflers are cardboard boxes with 1" pee shooter tailpipes! |

I dont know your build for the engine, but if it's a mildly street mannered car for your son, I think 3.5" is overkill. Most aftermarket exhaust pieces for our cars are 3", which is just perfect for the street and plenty of racers.
Dynomax recommends to use 3.5" tubing all the way back if you have 350+ horsepower.

The car has 2.5 all the way back right now.
I was going to go 3.5 from the headers to the muffler (single) then 3.00 on the tail pipes, two out. |

No dude. You buy an exhaust cutout. That has the wing nuts.
You bolt the Power Plate, inplace of the cutout plate the wingnuts held on. The power plate, as a butterfly that is electrically controlled.
Go with 3.5". If you ever upgrade, you wont have to again. I ran out of 3" exhaust real quick. That's 350 flywheel horsies. For some of us with about 450 :O)
Had single 3" cutout, which gave the same power as dual 3" through mufflers. |
