I went to start the car and noticed that the needle on the gas gauge is pointing at straight up. (I wish I had that much gas) My first thought is that the float on the fuel sending unit isn't working properly. Either that or a bad harness connection somewhere.

I have noticed moisture on the inside of the gauge cluster though.

I had the same problem with mine, I tried replacing the gauge with a factory one in the cluster, didn't work out in my favor, pulled the sending unit and ohm tested it, went thru the whole range properly 0 to 90 ohms, then after exhausting all my options (except throwing down for the expensive unit) I bought an eqqus gauge from oriely, took me like 20 mins to install and its worked perfectly

Just a thought

9 times out of 10 it's the sending unit in the tank. Not that the float drops, but that the resistance piece is bad.

With it pointing straight up I'd think short to ground or open circuit. Check the wire at the tank plug under the car infront of the axle.

Then pull the cluster out and check that pin.

If they all ohm 0-90ohms (depending on how much full you have) gauge is bad.

The wire sending a reading to the gas gauge had managed to get pulled away from it's connection on the sending unit. The female connector was still attached to the unit, but the wire was not.

When i bought the car the pump was dead so the last owner changed the pump and swapped in an old but newer sending unit.

It's amazing I have yet to cause a problem. Wink
