So my engine has been running rough lately and seems to be getting worse each day. It smells really rich...again

I'm thinking power-valve since i've heard that Holley carbs are notorious for blowing the power valves after a backfire, and i had a backfire last weekend.

I've seen a power valve blowout trick to prevent that. I'll have to see where it is. You basically just plug a hole and you're done.

What holley do you have? I have a 650 DP at home waiting for a project to get started...

Also, it is worth noting that some of the newer Holley carbs come with a "Power Valve Protector", [pic] or check ball in the base plate to prevent backfires from rupturing the power valve's diaphragm.

i think you can put this in if you don't have one. Maybe someone else can pipe up and explain a bit more.

I just read a deal from holley that says every carb from 92+ has that valve check ball in there.

Those don't always work though either. They do help. May I suggest you get an actual Holley brand power valve too.. the napa ones i've tried seem to blow way easy.

well i got a new holley PV installed today. It seems to be running better so i think that means i've fixed it. I'll be taking a trip to visit my girlfriend this weekend so that will be the true test.

I also managed to break the throttle return spring in the process. easy fix though.

PS I also found out the the holley brand power valve has a lifetime warranty on it, so if i blow it again i shouldn't have to buy a new one. Smile
