were is the rotor suppost to point when the crank is at top dead center?

At the terminal with #1 plug wire on it.

You need to make sure that it is on the intake stroke, and not the exaust stroke also. STOCK, they say #1 is at 4 o'clock, but you just need to make sure that at TDC on the intake stroke, whereever the rotor points, is #1.

When the crank is at TDC of the FIRING stroke.

Remeber, it hits TDC twice, but only fires once. Cool

the distributor swap is done! i didnt really get a chance to tell you guys thats what i was doing...
for some reason i just decided to pull it out by myself around 4:00, and with a few tests trial & error i got it right! Mr. Green runs perfect without any pinging like with the old distributor!

might do a doublecheck of the timing to make sure everything is running tip-top.

So the timing chain never solved the jumping timing I take it? good to hear you finally fixed it though.
