So i was wondering about what is required to make it so i can run an 87 iroc without the front license plate in Washington and just run the bow tie grill w/ fog lights?
Once this is done do you have to keep your old license plate in your front window and what not?

I don't know the exact legality of it, but I just threw mine up on the dashboard so you can see it clearly through the windshield.

yes your required. depends if your car gets stolen and how fast you want it back.

i bolted mine to my air dam...

in texas, the law states it must be visible from 2 and 20 feet.
you just have to be on your knees to see it at 2 feet.


no problems after 6 months with it that way... front end certainly looks better too

i've had a couple different cars where i didn't have a front plate. on my of my 4th gens, there weren't any holes to put on, and i wasn't going to make any!
for these vehicles, i got some small suction cups and put it up on the dash and suctioned it to the windshield. i did get pulled over for it, but the cop liked the set up, he didn't write a ticket.

ive had the plate on the dash for the whole time i have owned my 91. havent been pulled over yet. had the car for bout 3 years now, maybe a bit more.

I've been pulled over countless times for my dash mounted front plate. Cops around here just don't like me or my car.

Althought technically it's legal, it's the forward portion of the vehical within 54" of the ground which is the RCW.

Actually, in most cases a plate on the windshield is not legal. In addition to the 48" max height (which isn't a problem for an F-body, unless it was lifted up by your neighborhood redneck), there's also a maximum size of view-blocking material that can be in your line-of-site. I haven't looked through the RCW for Washington's limit, but in CA it was 4" square, which is much less than a plate.

FWIW, I've never had a front plate on my car, spent 5 years with it in CA, and am up to 7 in WA, and I've only been pulled over once, and it was a contextual stop (I had my best friend, a police officer, with me in the car at the time). She pulled me over for the plate as the "excuse," but she was actually profiling. She, of course, did not ticket me.

In any case, I refuse to put a plate on the front of the car. I'll take the fix-it ticket, pay the $10, and get the required sign-off, then promptly remove the plate again.

Quick question for Kage and guys running collector plates: how big of a stink do they make if you run them on your daily, or a car that gets a lot more driving than a weekend warrior?

As far as I know, if you have collector plates the car is basically a hobbie. It should only be driven to/from car shows or for maintainance. Not daily driving.

I know the legality of them, I was just wondering about enforcement. In either case, I'm still a decade away from that.
