ok. so i have an automatic. i am thus unable to choose my shift points. the only way i can "fool" the tranny into shifting when i want it to is by letting off the gas for a second. the only problem with this is when i stomp it again the tranny will downshift. the generaly accepted way to ramove this feature is to do a bunch of tranny mods i do not fully understand (yet). but what if...
if i remove that cable on my throttle body that tells the tranny to down shift when i floor it will it not downshift when i go WOT?
i know this would not be good for street use, but what an easy mod to do and undo at the track.
somone tell me if this will work. |

| Uhh... isn't the problem with no shift at WOT only in OD, or is it both? I never use OD when racing before I hit 75ish. |

| That cable on a 700r4 is NOT a downshift cable.. its a TV cable. TV means throttle valve. It controls the actual line pressure in the transmission. If you leave this disconnected you'll quickly burn up your trans. Even if you should change the radius of its mounting point you'll burn up the trans. I think what you are actually wanting is the vette servo. |

the vette servo involves tranny modification, i was trying to find a way to achieve a similar outcome without turning a wrench. so if the TV cable is the Throttle Valve cable, what do you call the cable from the shifter to the tranny? i always thought THAT was the "TV" cable. i had always assumed the Throtle valve cable was just to tell the tranny when do downshift....
well it was a good theory. glad i did not just try it to see what happens
as for the vette servo.. i do not plan on doing ANYTHING to "build up" my TH700R4. i am going to drive it untill
a: it explodes
b: i swap in a 6 or 5 speed. |

Vette servo is just a bolt in piece. Real easy to do.
Even then sometimes it will hang on the shift, you prolly need a good shift kit. That's a little more involved, but the trans does not have to come out to do these mods.
This is the second main reason I don't like 700R4.... 3rd would be that you can't got WOT in OD unless you put a different part in aswell. |

| Yes, you were in third. Count the number of times it shifts. |

| Why? If you aren't out of RPM in 3rd, why be in forth? You'll just lose ET and power being in the higher gear. With the 6spd I JUST shift into 4th (your third) before the line. |

Maybe. I could use 4.11 I think. That would make 6th at 60 cherry at about 1700ish |

| Actually, for that Bird, you're peaking out at 4400. Shift a little past that. Do you run a stall converter at all, or is it just a stock TH-700? |

What do you shift at RPM wise? With my steet tires the 4.10's would put me at 6200 RPM and 108 mph. Of course floating the valves at 5500 I was crossing the finish line at 104mph with the clutch in and engine idling. |

Shifting at 6300
The Drag Radials are 1 inch taller so my rpms dropped a bit. Plus the time to wind out 3rd makes to 4th gear rpms when I trap like 5000 or so |

Hard to say if it would be worth the money to change to 4.10's.
I know with my .63 overdrive 5th is a great cruising gear. |

But imagine the possabilities with a .50 Cruising gear
I don't think I'll change gears with this rear end. Might consider it for a 12 bolt someday. |
