We haven't been able to get the car running good all of a sudden, weird stuff. Car has been sitting for a week or so.
Then bang we got code 52, so it looks like it’s a bad ECM.
Was running fine last week, Lets say I hope it’s the ECM.
I think we are going to buy a rebuilt one form schucks, we did this in the 87z last year after that all the problems went away.

Scott,

Is that the ECM that came with the SD wiring harness?

Something sound wrong?

Stock chip and calpak right? Check and make sure that the calpak is firmly in place.

Yep, yep, and yep.

custom bin (slightly)
ran fine last week, went to start it and wow, was it missing, then code 52

I guess I could try the stock bin again, just take it off the adapter and plug it in.

That'd be the place to start for sure. 9 times out of 10, code 52 is an invalid calpak, improperly installed calpak, or a missing calpak. 1 out of 10 times it's a bad ECM.

Put the calpak in by itself, with the stock chip, and see if it works. If not, and the calpak is the proper calpak (i.e. V8 pak for a VCool, then swap the ECM.

I was gonna mention that Pick-A-Part down in Tumwater has several '730s in stock, but they are all from 3.1Ls and so the calpaks wouldn't work. If it is the ECM, they sell 'em for $35, thats where I got mine. Cool

Try old chip or the stock chip. Sometimes the burn was wrong too.

Make sure none of the wires for the ECM are being shorted too.

I put the original chip in but nothing, will not start at all, zip..
Well that’s maybe because of VATS.
I wish there was a way to tell it was the ecm or the call pack
I have the burned chip in the adapter hooked up to the original memcal.

Iam wondering, on the back half of the call pack there is an area that has clear rubber that covers a small raised circuit board.
My programmed chip is what the ecm see's, so what is on the clear covered area that looks like a circuit board.
I thought it was only knock sensor stuff, (it reads the data from the knock sensor, 91 year 7730)
Any way Iam looking at the stock chip it says,
DELCO ANJF 4307
So far can't find any info on that number.
Will continue to search for it.

looks like vin code 8 I did find some info on the broadcast code.
so now my question is why are there diff broadcast codes for the same car of the same year, same aplication.?

Is there an updated memcal with a differant broadcast code that I should be using?

I found a new memcal check it out

Thanks

ANJF is the stock bin for that prom.

The side that your chip is on... that the prom plugs into the adapter and doesn't use is the stock chip.

The other small chip in there is for limp home mode.

The way to tell if it's the "cal pak" or not... is to try plugging JUST the stock prom back in there... no adapter. If that doesn't work, and non of your chips work, you're probably dead ecm.

I did the no adapter thing but I get nothing at all, but that’s because of vats, I believe.

Haven’t tried a newly burnt chip yet, will try tonight

Just doing some looking at all the diff, broadcast codes. Looks like they are specific to certain things in the car, like rear end gears when running the stock chip.

$84.00 for a new Cardone ecm did some looking into it and it looks like they changed for the better on how they put them together and a few internal components.
Available at smucks...

So if that isn't it its another 458 from gm direct for the memcal.

thanks

If he's getting data (which he is if he's reading Code 52), then it's not a bad burn. If it were, then he'd either get no data (and limp home mode), or checksum routine would fail, spitting out code 51.

If it ran before and you didn't have VATS disabled, then you were likely running in limp home mode. Burn a chip with VATS disabled and give that a go. In a nutshell, there are a few things that can go wrong just in the area of the ECM/Calpak/Chip. Ensure you've got everything set up correctly. Post a pic if you need to.
