|
|
So ive been working on a group of 90 300z's and ive got to say i miss boost....horribly lol ive looked around but not too hard on what our options are, obviously NOS, not a fan to be honest
Procharger setup, never had a car with an aftermarket SC so i wouldnt even know what its like
Turbo....the devil subject lol all i have ever been told is there is alot of work involved but never any specifics, manifolds of some kind obviously, the turbo(s) and then ecm tuning, I'd like to get some ideas on what my options are and cost of it all, if i can get a list i can just buy and stash parts like i have been
Its either go this route or buy a new car lol Keep the camaro obviously and piss my wife off but i plan to be buried in it. OH! and what would be a safe amount of boost to put into a 350?
Im seeing another motor build for this i think i just need to know what ive gotta look forward to, or what i can do to my existing build to make it doable
keep in mind this is all speculation at this point, i know all avenues have been taken but i want to find the one that balances cost vs pay off _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

| Dude, sell that SBC and get a factory low-compression iron motor like an LQ truck or the 3800. |

That would require more modding than I wanna do right now, I have thought it over tho lol I know those things are bullet proof almost, I wanna see what I can do with where im at right now, if I could do up a single turbo with a little bit of boost id enjoy it lol
If I remember correctly you need to lower the compression of the motor to boost it right? _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

Depends on how much boost you want to run. Guys top-swap L36/L26 motors all day and run mid single-digit boost on a 9.4:1 engine. Then they swap to an L67/L32 shortblock and triple that number.
What compression is your SBC now? |

To be honest im not sure, it was just a basic rebuild, crank turned, cylinders honed hyper pistons stock rods and an lt1 cam (not sure if that matters) so whatever stock is lol _________________ If you expect a kick to the balls and get a slap to the face its still a victory

| Hyper pistons are the worst you can run with boost. Even cast works better with boost. I dont remember all the reasons but I'm sure its out there on the web if you do a search. |

| As I understand it (and I may be wrong here), hypers are much more prone to shattering when they get even a little bit of detonation. |

| Ahh ya.. the silicon content makes the material harder so it breaks. Whereas normal cast will deform before actual failure. |

All the car talk at my office the last few weeks has been the Hot Rod magazine article about the 1000HP 4.8L with a single turbo. Stock as a rock and didn't fail (at least on a few dyno pulls). I have several co-workers with single turbo on stock 5.3L trucks and all run 12's in the quarter. One of those guys runs the engine without mercy and it just won't break even after 25K miles. He even dusted off a Vette from a freeway roll. Now he is going to drop in a stock 6.0L LQ4 in search of 11's in a 1/2 ton truck.
I've had a supercharged LT1 and it was fast but made torque in an unnatural way that made it hard to drive hard on street tires. Personally, I like naturally aspirated for a street rod because a strong NA engine feels vicious and is super responsive. However, if I lived in a big city and had to drive traffic all the time I would probably use boost to keep it tame in traffic. But I'll never live in a big city. |
