| The T56 in my 2000 Camaro is stock, except the clutch. Works great with quite a bit of HP. |

That's good news. It isn't like the T56 in my dad's car doesn't work great, it's just a lot stiffer than my T5 to pull into gears (feels like you're working against the tranny instead of having the synchros suck the shifter into position), and the gates are funky for hitting third fast.
Could just be a case of not being used to it, but I do have quite a bit of seat time in it now. _________________ 84 Camaro Z28 - LS1/T56

Go drive a new lexus sometime with flappy paddles, it sucks. They are cool if you had more than 4 speeds and were slamming through them at over 10,000rpm's like a f1 car. But shifting between 4 gears just sounds lame.

Get the PRO5.0 shifter for the T56. It has springs to center the shifter faster, for 2-3 shifts.
You are working more trans. 6 gears are turning and a 2 piece longer counter shaft that all have to change speed between gears. That's why the synchro's wear out faster, and you upgrade to kevlar synchros.
The 3-4 shift fork is the real weak link, along with the nylon shift fork pads. The forks break all the time, they are dainty aluminum things. Upgrade to the steal one, they don't even make the aluminum as a replacement anymore. And the nylon pads wear out, upgrade to bronze. Never drive with your arm resting on the shifter. It greatly shortens the life of the pads.
Older transmissions didn't have pads, it was just metal fork to metal hub sleeve. You'd wear out the fork and sleeve. Whole trans disassemble for that. Here it's just replacing the pads which isn't too bad.
These are rated at 450lb/ft crank Torque in stock form, as far as power handling goes. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

In my experience with the T-56 it was not a set power number that killed it (my L98 put down 240/320 to the wheels) by my crazed driving style. 2-3 shift especially. I've ridden with you and I would not even bother installing one without upgrades.
Also, this is a silly question. Light car = stick, heavy car - auto. |
