so, I've been fighting a belt issue ever since dyno of '09.

Tried a couple different bracket setups for mounting my alternator with a standard "v" belt, but, I keep hitting the same problem..dump the clutch above 2k the belt kicks off. I have the original crank and WP Pullies, that are correct for 86/87 LG4, and I went to the JY today and bought a 5 rib pulley from an 87 Formy for the alternator. my issue is that the bracket I have has a shorter adjustment than the factory.

I've tried a 42", 43 1/2", and 44" 5 rib belts. 42" I can't get around the alt pulley even with everything loose. 43.5 fits but is still pretty loose at full tension.

I do have a couple turnbuckles I can experiment with but it seems to me, I ran into a problem where the alt needed some triangulation, in order to keep from shifting laterally with a turnbuckle as the mount on the top of the alt.

suggestions?

$75 you can have my alternator and its lower mounting, belts, crank/water pump pulleys, power steering pump, new high pressure line. As long as you have the long water pump with holes you'll be good to go.

I'll think about it.

i'd really like to find a cheaper solution though. I'd rather actually buy a whole serp setup if I'm having to fork over $75+ shipping.

Was just puttin it out there. It's just sitting either way.

This one has the small serp belt for the alt, and a v-belt for the PS.

I would get Paul's setup, Chris. I ran that same style on my IROC and had zero trouble with it.

I'm also running the '87 style v-belt for power steering and multi-rib for the Alt. It's a good setup, although I do have the March low-mount alternator bracket instead of stock. I dunno if that changes things. This setup has been great.
