try twisting it from side to side as you push. don't forget to do a mock-up with the pan so that you make sure its not hitting the bottom, but low enough so you're not starving the motor.

Also a good idea to tack weld it so it doesn't ever back out on ya.

RMS Housing?

Set the pickup 1/4-3/8" above the bottom of the pan. Buy a bolt on addition and or tack the pickup to the pump. If it falls out you'll ruin the motor. Even though you think you have it hammered in there good, you don't.

He's right. Ask me how I know. Embarassed

Let's just say that's the reason I bought a mild shortblock ahead of schedule.

Hit it on the loop.. it goes. You may make a flat spot on the tube but as long as you dont crush the thing you'll be allright.

Mine have all had a rib stop to prevent it from penetrating the pump too far. I put a big cresent wrench on the rib and then hammer the wrench. Make sense?

Travis truly has reached the zen of oil-pump pickups.

Work smarter, not harder.

I ground the tt tip to fit and used a vice to hold it, lubed it and used the crecent wrench around the pickup with a dead blow hammer to pound it in. once I set it Lo Cash is gonna tack it for me

I know I'm not good for much but I least I have sparkles of brilliance every so often.

Did you remember to check fit it with the pan? I did mine a few times. If your lucky, put the pickup barely in the pump and clocked so it will hit the pan. Then gently push the pan up causing the pickup to swivel. I then went another 1/4" and hammered it home. I wanted the gap to compensate for pan gasket variances, which are real. And the reason I said lucky is because most times the pickup falls out when its swiveled or its too far in and won't swivel.

Well I picked up a motor build book with alot of good tips, it said to mount it in the pump, put the pan on so it hits with a small gap on the pan/block, shove it down, measure then go another 1/4" so im off to do that now and then mark it so LC can weld it for me

Got the pump all set up, gonna have it welded tomorrow hopefully, rear main seal housing is on with blue locktite on all the bolts, timing cover is on along with timing tab, ARP bolts holding it on, harmonic balancer is on good and tight torqued to 65 ft lbs as per the instructions summit sent.

Now for the problem of the day: i bought a 1 pc oil pan gasket which i have on my current motor, when i put the pan on it wont go down all the way, stock oil pan, mr gasket timing cover, and a felpro 1 pc gasket, when you use an aftermarket timing cover do you have to use an aftermarket pan??? Keep in mind that it cant be the pump hitting the pan, cuz its sitting next to me right now lol

If you bought a timing cover for the old style THIN rubber gasket, it wont work. Needs to be the style for the thick gasket 1pc or 2pc.
