ok so ive been doing some thinking and im gonna put a little more money into the motor and mate it to my t5 for the break in, do the t56 later, my cam is an LT1 cam and the lifters are......in bad shape, theyre on the edge of being usable so i figured i could buy new ones, then i thought...why not a new cam? since my lt1 cam is used, i want something comparable to the LT1, not sure how much it actually does for the motor but i dont wanna go ridiculous on it, just a mild cam kit thats not ridiculously expensive, summit has cam/lifter kits but i dunno how good they are.

Im also using crane cams 1.5 gold roller rockers if that helps

Lifters? How do you know they are wearing out.... if you have a LT1 cam, they are rollers...

I've always heard that if you change a cam you change the lifters too.

And most roller cams don't come in "kit" form.

I was under the inpression you needed to keep lifters in order, which they're in a box, or is that just with flat tappet? One or two of them is sticking, the plunger won't release so its either buy new ones or chance it lol andas far as the kit goes I just did a quick search on summit for them I'm totally ignorant in the cam area to be honest I know there's roller and flat tappet, that's it lol

With a flat tappet the lifters become mated to the cam lobes. Not on a roller. Hell, on an LSx you don't even need to fish the lifters out of the bores to swap the cam. Laughing

You can't even get to the lifters without pulling the heads!

keep in mind my motor is still apart, i havent even got the heads on, theyre getting cleaned soon, ive heard you can soak them in oil to free them? at this point ive got to get the heads cleaned then whenever my damn parts show up get the oil pump screen in and assemble it, which is why i had the cam idea, since its still apart anyway, why not? its the only part in the rotating assembly that hasnt been replaced with something new, when i bought the cam i got obviously the cam, and the valve springs, and rockers, but since i got a set of crane roller rockers those are going on instead

is the lifter order important? or can i just put them in and call it a day?

Do you mean these are used lifters and you can't compress the plunger? If so they'll do that when they're full of oil.

overall do you guys think using the stuff ive got now will be sufficient? all i have to do if it will work is gonna be get the heads cleaned up/assembled, then put it all together

i just dont want to put this thing together, bank on it and have it blow up on me

im going to buy a new set of crank bearings, and recheck all my clearances, when my friend used the plastigauge he tore it instead of cutting it, which throws off the numbers evidently

What's wrong with the lifters exactly?

No need to buy $350 worth of lifters if you don't need to.

I'm just not sure of their condition I got them with the cam, I was told you need to keep them in order or they can fail (again not sure if that applies the roller blocks) if they'll work then they're going in, I need to get my heads done at nappa and then just put it together if they're ok

Roller cam/lifter don't care which hole/lobe you put them in.

A stock replacement set last time I checked is liek $350.
