Anybody here got any general tips on prom tuning? I've found loads of info on specific topics but am lost as to what order I should tackle things as I expect most things are codependent.
So far the biggest thing I want to work on is the idle. I've raised the rpm a bit to smothen it but it still tends to wander a bit. I've found the o2 to wander between .100ish to 7-800mv and the blm around 136-140 at idle. My camshaft has about 46 degrees of overlap but I have no idea what the stock one did to compare with. Cruising on the highway it's very stable at .630mv or so and blm 127.
Other than that I've disabled the smog system through temp and offset, and erg through temp.
I've heard that I need to change a few things to have closed loop work properly after changing thermostats. I have a 170 stat and the car enters closed loop just fine but I want to make sure there isn't something I'm missing. I have my fans set to turn on at 195 and off at 185 and it's been nice not to have to mess with my heater every time I get stuck at a light for long or in traffic. _________________ 2010 Cobalt LT

The ECM is very reliant on coolant temp for all kinds of crap (including idle speed).
Go through TunerPro (or whatever you use) and readjust everything that has the word "coolant" on it so that the normal range is in place by the time the engine has reached whatever your normal operating temp is. Chevy's normal range kicks in around 200-210*, you just need to move it down a bit.
Also, you gotta watch it because Chevy used both Fahrenheit and Centigrade on different tables in the same chip. |
