Its been going at a pretty slow pace, waiting for the machine shop, and parts, etc. I finally got started with putting her back together this weekend.

Here is what she looks like (and has looked like for the last month. All torn apart.)

Spent about 40 minutes with the Air tools, polishing the deck surface, so its all ready for the Cyl. Head.

Cyl. Head back from the machine shot. (lookin' good!)

Here I am, lubing up. (ohhh, that sounds dirty)

Once you lube things up good, you can slowly slide it in... (that sounded really dirty).

Head all back together, and ready to be put in the car.

So far, progress isn't as quick as I would have hoped. The Germans do things a little diffrently, so we are having to learn as we go.

(Barts favorite saying...)
John: Whats the torque spec on that?
Bart: Gutten-tight Laughing

Anyway, I thought I would share. I have a bit of a break, while I wait for Bart to get back over here, so we can fit the cyl head on the block, and install the ARP Head studs! From there things should go pretty quick, hopefully she will be running sometime this weekend. I'll post more pics later tonight.

Looking good John.

Someday you gotta try that lube up and slide in trick on a woman, has to be better than an Audi head. Pokey pokey

Made a little more progress, but not as much as I planned. I was twarted by a 12point 1/2" deep socket, that is needed to torque down the nuts for the head studs. It is apparently a fairly hard to find socket.

Anyway...here are some more pics.

If you haven't already found a socket check Sears. I have a set of deep 12 pt sockets from Crapsman. Also the 13mm in my metric set from SnapOn would work, probably what is suposed to be used being a metric car and all.

Heh. If I know my audi's correctly. That manifold makes it so that the exhaust has the same distance to travel no matter what cylinder it is from. The stock manifolds are shorter inthe back, and longer in the front before reaching the exhaust. The spaghettit helps even it out and creates more even backpressure.

Dewey... how'd I do?

Pretty good.

You forgot to add, that it is a very rare factory header. Wink

Todays update:
Didn't get much done today. Torqued the head down (got ahold of a 12pnt 1/2" deep socket).

Went to put the timing belt on, and found this:

The keyway on the cam sprocket is broken. I'm actualy lucky I found this now. The I5 is an interferance motor, so the cams going out of time, could have been a disaster.

Sealing up everything on the head.

Timing belt cover, exaust and cover, and intake manifold on.

Here is where I left it for the night... Tomorrow, injectors, spark plugs/wires, and throttle body go on, along with the maf and air box. once thats on, I should be able to test fire it!!!!

For an Audi???

Shoot, for $450 i'd sell him mine. I have the turbo exaust manifold in my 'spare parts closet', for $450, i could buy the rest of the parts to convert it to a 20VT

Ok... got quite a bit done today, then hit another wall Confused

The Good:
Cleaned up the TB, all ready to go on.

Started putting the intake back on, this task will make you swear in german.

Got the intake all done, and started on the wiring, and fuel lines, etc.

Basicly, completely assembled Engine!!!!

The Bad:
Battery was dead, so we had to try to jump it. Cranked it over just fine (engine turns, that is good!).

We found out, that one of my fuel lines is leaking. So the car will sit as it is until I get a new line. The other bad news, was it didn't fire. I suspect our timing is quite a bit off. Once the car stops soaking the engine bay in gas, i can try to get it timed.
