I got my Sprint all finished up about an hour ago and let it run up on the stands for about 30 minutes warming up and checking for leaks. An oil pressure gauge was also installed to check everything out. The good news is it's got great oil pressure with 75 psi at cold idle, 50-60 psi at a steady 60mph hot, and 24 psi at hot idle. The bad news is that at any steady speed at or above 60mph it is audibly knocking. The knocking goes away on acceleration and deceleration. Under 60mph it can't be heard. Needless to say, I wont be making the dyno with this "beast". lol.
So which would you rather see on the dyno?
1985 2WD Chevy Suburban with an '80-'86 Small Block Chevy... motor's origin is unknown.
Or,
2003 Pontiac Sunfire Ex-rental car, automatic

It is an ex-rental car. I am sure it has seen a 200 shot before. _________________

Buying a used rental car is like going to a whore house to find a wife. She might not be that old but alot of people have rented her by the day. Not exactly something you want to go sticking your key in. |

Charlie I'd love to see that Suburban of yours on the dyno. It sounded like it was mildly cammed.
Then again that Sunfire is probably used to being abused |

I'm still debating on which vehicle to dyno, though I'm leaning more towards the Sunfire. I took the Suburban to PIR last Friday to see what it'd run and practice R/T's. And it turns out that the Suburban is slow... really slow. The best time of the night was 18.61 @ 70.12mph. Though it was fairly consistent in times:
18.61 @ 70.12
18.65 @ 70.47
18.74 @ 70.35
18.78 @ 70.07
18.82 @ 70.30
18.83 @ 70.44
18.87 @ 70.31
19.00 @ 69.67
Obviously those are not in the order they happened. Best R/T was .153 and worst was .226 *looks for sleeping smiley*. Best 60' of the night was 2.46 and the worst was 2.53. Good or bad, it's still really really slow. lol
The Sunfire on the other hand, has yet to be run at a track or with my G-tech. It may be interesting to see on the dyno. With it in 3rd it'll kickdown to second at anything slower than 65mph, which is right at 3,500rpm's. When it doesn't kickdown and the throttle is pushed to the floor the tach immediately jumps to 4,000-ish rpm and then should climb to the 6,500rpm redline. I expect at least a 16.9 1/4-mile time out of this car.
Current plans for the Sprint is that it's gonna sit untill I've saved enough to properly rebuild the motor. And when I stop spending money on the Vega, I just spent a hair under $500 in the last week on it.

That's what the suburban ran?
I put down around 184 horse in my '67 C10 that weighed something like 4300lbs.... ran 16.xx in the quarter. |

That seems to be all it had in it. Pretty pathetic isn't it? I was expecting a low- mid-17 out of it. It's got 3.73 gears and will barely scratch the tires from a start. Maybe the engine's a 305 instead of the 350 I was told. Oh, the Suburban weighs around 5,200lbs.

LMAO... I think I found part of the problem. Today I did a basic tune-up on the Suburban replacing the cap, rotor, plugs, plug wires, oil, and oil filter. When I pulled the cap off, the rotor was just sitting there. It was NOT screwed down or even broken, JUST SITTING THERE! I knew the people I bought it from were rednecks, but come on! Tomorrow I may swap the q-jet carb and intake for a Weiand/Edelbrock combo. Possibly install headers too, not sure yet.
