Right now I have a posi rear axle out of a 95 firebird. But it has a 2.73 carrier and I want to put 3.73 gears in it. I know they make the special gears, but I would rather replace the whole posi unit with a Torsen type out of a newer camaro or firebird, but will it fit? Thanks guys

As long as you have 28-spline axles (which you do in a '95 rear) and you have someone competent set the gears up, you'll be fine. The carrier will physically fit your case.

Yeah the splines should be good. I'm definitely going to find someone to help me with the gears and stuff.

Yes, 10 bolt is 10 bolt as long as the spline count is the same (26 or 2Cool. Since you have a 2 series carrier you can either get a thick crown gear or a spacer. My 10 bolt in the garage has a 2 series 26 spine auburn posi with ring gear spacer and 4.11's.

I don't know what setup you have, but 3.73's are an excellant choice for performance and cruise-ability.

Where did you find your gears? I have been having problems finding the thick ones. I have a 383 with a t5 behind it. Im getting tired of having to rev it so high to take off in first. My clutch needs absolutely no help slipping lol. I heard 3.73s were a good gear to run from a lot of people so I really want to get them. I just cant really find them

Randy's ring and pinion has them. If you go the catalog page with the 10 bolt stuff it should be listed with the ring gear. I'll take a look and tell you exactly where.

Wouldn't you know it, they changed the catalog. Give them a call and ask about thick crown ring gears for 10 bolt 2 series carriers.1866-631-0196

My 3.73 put me somewhere between 2300 and 2500 in 5th, but my speedometer is off just a tad too, 70 indicated is about 67.

Depends on what 5th gear ratio you have.

T5 had anywhere from a .63 to a .73 overdrive ratio depending on the year, go here to find a list (scroll down) and check it out. There are even calculators on this page that will tell you what RPM you will turn at what speed.

Sweetness thanks. Looks like if i have a .73 5th gear ill be turning about 2400 at 70 mph. If 5th is .63 it'll be 2100. I can't remember what my transmission came out of so its one of the two. Thats not bad i think Im gonna go for it

Setup is no harder than any other non-drop out rear. Gotta have the right tools to remove the bearing without destroying it to set your shims.

Gear brand has more to do with noise. GM gears are the quietest. Richmond and Yukon are notoriously loud.

Also matters if a set has been installed before or not. If its been run in before then it will probably make noise the 2nd time.
