I'm gonna do a tuneup and wanna replace the cap & rotor, wires, and coil w/ upgraded parts. Since this is my first tbi car I'm not sure what exactly to get. I was looking @ Accel or MSD products. Anybody got any advice and/or part #s? _________________ '91 Firebird - LO3, 700R4, 2.73 gears

| It uses all the same ignition parts as the tpi cars did. Or at least the small cap hei tpi cars. I'd probably go msd coil, but for the rest you really dont need to pay the premium. Go to your favorite parts house and buy their upper line cap and rotor. Make sure it has brass terminals. If so you're all set there. Taylor or summit(made by taylor) wires are probably your best bang for the $$. I like to buy the universal cut to fit wires so they can be routed correctly without loops. I wouldnt buy accel wires on a bet, and i've had trouble with msd wires. My msd helicore wires only lasted a year, but I was running some significant current through them. |

I will second Accell wires being garbage.
Summit makes nice cap and rotor combos with brass contacts, equal to MSD parts IMHO for much less.
I run Blue Streak or Summit brand caps and rotors, Taylor wires, MSD coils and boxes, and have had good luck with all of them. |

| Ok, thanks guys. Good to know that it's the same as a tpi car. It needs a new air filter too so I think I'll order a K&N and some ignition parts from Summit. |

Accell were the wires I just put on, then removed in favor of MSD after installing new wire guides. For some reason I couldn't get the car to fire with them. Also had some trouble after removing them until I gave the motor a little more gas when starting.
I still have them, cut to length if you're interested. Marked at the dizzy end as to which cylinder they go to. You'll probably need some guides or tie wraps to route them over the valve covers. _________________ 92 Camaro

Sorry Al... just shot down both your choices. But I had quite a bit more amperage going through my MSD wires then you will have. So they'll probably work fine for ya. |

8 years of abuse on taylor 8mm spiral cores and there doin great. and i just run blue streak cap and rotor with the brass terminals and never an issue. the gain is truly minimal, but its better then nothing. a high out put coil is good, ive got the msd, but did have one fail after 3 months. try gapping the plugs a bit more, this should take advantage of the high output coil. _________________ Camaro Kid

I've got Taylor wires IIRC.
MSD StreetFire dizzy. I havent had problems with it. Eliminates the need for an external coil. |

MSD Street Fire, they were readily available on the shelf at the parts store when I needed cut to fit wires to get the car running. They're also the same ones I had in prior to the Accell wires. |
