I wanna know where you are getting an entire car painted by a shop for $1800.

Me too!

There's damage to 2 edges of the hood so it has to be repaired and painted. There's also damage to the front edge of the driver's door so the paint has to be blended into the door.

We were looking @ it on the lift when I stopped by earlier and the whole nose is tweaked a little bit. The hood, bumper and passenger headlight will need aligning along w/ the new parts. At least it doesn't need a suspension alignment!

i just crashed my hood, bumper, both fenders, headlights and pushed the rad bar back a bit. its easier to just replace parts with good used parts at the price. i had all those parts off in 2 hours and it took like 2 hours to put nice parts back on. granted i had a parts car and a junkyard nearby to pick and choose parts from.

if you replaced the parts yourself you could get a nice paint job (bb/cc) for 2 grand. but i guess it really depends on what you can/want to do yourself

i dont know you or your car but i'm not a big fan of blending 20 year old paint either, assuming its original. but i am a big of of Trans Ams so i hope your car turns out great

I live in an apartment and between work and a kid I don't have the time even if I had a place to fix it. It's worth it to me to have a pro shop do it and have no worries about the job.

I had the car repainted approx. 8 years ago and it's been in a garage and well taken care of since then. "Blending shouldn't be a problem" were the painters exact words this morning.

i only looked at those pictures on my phone so i couldnt see what your paint looks like. it is very nice to just get something done without worrie. if i had the money i would of just sent my car to the shop because big projects are full of worries!

Why? Just curious

I have blended 30yo paint, and honestly would challenge anyone to find it. Its not how old the paint is, its how good the painter is.

PS. The painter will have the whole door to blend, hes laughing Razz Thats an easy job not like birds have small doors lol! Ditto for the hood

i said i did not know HIS car but MOST 3rd gens are beat to shizzle and no one takes care of the paint.

after he explained his car i agreed that it was good to just blend.
since your a painter, how much is a paint job with no bodywork and not a complete strip down?

Ya very much so, not alot of clean 3rd gens around.

And it really depends for paint jobs. Completes, are min 2 grand and thats pretty much a scuff and shoot, mask everything off.
But that being said, if a shop is decent but slow you can get a good job and not pay a premium.

Other thing if, you replace all the parts yourself and only need paint you can find a painter that does work on the side. Be warned that can go one of two ways, they care and do a really good job. More often then that, they hack it and do horrible things Sad
