Zexel Torsen's. I've heard they go out a lot and need to be replaced.

Nope. They are probably the strongest part of the 10 bolt rear.

If you've been wanting disc brakes and posi then maybe this is your chance. These don't come along every day. Just do the best you can to ask questions so you can understand why it came out, why he's selling it, and what is the working condition. The last thing you want to do is spend $400 and then have to repair it.

Have him hold one axle, and you turn the other axle. If it takes 50-100lb/ft to turn, it's a good working posi. If it turns freely its an open or a worn out posi.

My worn one takes about 10-20 to turn. Lots of one tire fireness if I'm not careful.

100 lb-ft is a measure of torque. It's the equivalent of 100 pounds hanging from a 1 foot bar attached to the center of the axle. If you're grabbing the brake rotor then you're about 6 inches from the centerline so you would need to apply 200 pounds of force tangent to the rotor outer circle.

Just grab the brake disc and turn it. If it's really difficult then it's good. If you can spin it without grunting then it's worn out.

little late, but as Jon said, the Zexel is the strongest link in a 7.5 or 7.625, GM 10 bolt rear.

Admittedly, I found the zexel worked better in situations going around curves where traction would get loose (IIRC I think paul mentioned something about this), VS launching in a straight line.

Just something to consider. Zexels work on a worm-gear system, and don't really need any additive to the gear oil to work right.

decide what you want to do with the car, and choose your posi carrier from there.

Well I'll check it out. Need like $200.

Anyone wanna buy doors or fenders? I've got 2 purple doors, and 2 red fenders. All the stuff is with the doors. Tinted windows. There's just black carpet over the grey vinyl. And it doesn't have handles. I think Luke has another pair. Oh he has a door too. Driver door with power window.
