i thought i would make a thread documenting my 2nd motor swap haha

ill also post any questions i have or problems i run into here to prevent multiple threads

picked up the motor saturday.....LONG DRIVE! lol

the engine is now on a REAL engine stand haha unlike last time when i used 4x4 fence posts. and im working on cleaning it up and getting it painted

Eww.. nasty hard dirt inside the engine. Try to blow all that crap out without getting it down in the pan if you can. Once you have that clean pour a few gallons of diesel through and drain it. .Trying to rinse out any garbage that might have made it into the pan.

No.. i think only vettes got roller rockers in any of their motors. Not sure bout LS stuff. Roller motor just means roller lifters.. the most important part.

ok so when i lift up my motor with a hoist i use an engine leveler that bolts to where the intake manifold bolts onto, should i wait until after the motor is in the car to install the manifold because i have to remove four of the bolts to put the leveler on? or should i just go ahead and put manifold on?

and should i find another place to mount my coil? considering everytime i need to adjust timing i have to unbolt the coil bracket which is bolted down with one of the intake manifold bolts

im just thinkin that its probably not a good idea to undo the bolts but who knows maybe the other 8 bolts are enough to keep it sealed while i get it in the car and adjust timing

You can undo the 4 bolts from the intake to install the motor no problem. Just make sure you torque the intake down properly with all 12 first. Then use longer bolts for the leveler. I like to have the intake on if I can because it helps keep debris from entering the motor. My HSR however, I put on after the motor is in simply because of how tall it is and it's installed as a unit with the injectors already on.

You can move your coil anywhere you want.

My coil is right above the dizzy mounted to the firewall. I have to remove it any time I do a tuneup Wasnt the smartest place.

ok so the intake manifold i got from john is the wrong one....i need the one that has the middle bolts going almost straight up and down, i have the one where they are all the same angle

You can get some beveled washers from Tacoma Screw for ~$1.5/pc. I did that when I put my HSR on. You have newer heads and older manifold, correct? IIRC it's something like 15* bevel? It's off by a degree or two but I never had any issues in the few years I had my HSR on.

Or are you going the opposite direction? Old heads and newer manifold? I can never remember which had which.

Die grind the 4 center holes to fit. And like Ian said, get some beveled washers.

ok so the LG4 in my car now has a newer manifold on old motor

the L03 is new motor and i have an old manifold

i could just swap them when i pull the motor but the newer manifold i have has a bad water neck bolt hole, i have some huge screw in there now and it works but i like to have things right ya know

i did work on this thing today, got it cleaned, painted, installed cam, set valve lash, and figured out intake is wrong lol

as paul said.. just elongate the center intake holes on your TPI manifold. with proper gasket and some teflon sealant around the intake bolts, should be no issue.
