so my poor neighbor now has to pay his insurance deductable, and fight a BS citation.
So I'm outside having a smoke and I hear a crash sound. I go running into the front yard and I see my neighbors poor PT cruiser with the front of a crown vic in it. Lo and behold, its a cop car. neighbor who's car got hit comes out and talks with the officers in the car that hit his car. I stay out there for a while, some of my other neighbors come out and are watching. 3 more cop cars show up....cops stay there for about an hour, and then leave when a tow truck comes for his car. I figured a Supervisor showed up and they were getting insurance details.
I go over, along with the neighbor who lives on my side of the street after the cops leave, and ask Jeff (neighbor who got his car hit) if everything was okay. Evidently my neighbor gets a citation for "illegal parking" and has a $235 fine to pay, and now has a wrecked car.
the part about this, that really gets me, is he was parked more than 50ft from a bus stop, which, based on my own personal experience (having my old Ford Ranger rear ended on the opposite side of the street) is legal, based on what the officer who showed up to my accident said.
What is the real kicker, is the ORS citation on the actual ticket doesn't exist.
While I'm glad it wasn't me, I still can't believe this. I'm just beside myself....
Anyone know an autonomous tip line to the internal affairs division of the Portland Police?
It seems to me something similar happened to a guy who had a firebird (he doesn't post anymore) when a cop ran a stop and hit him, that's my only reason for posting.
I sincerely hope nothing like this happens to any of you guys. _________________

| Screw the tip line. You think the solution to this problem is more blue? He needs less blue and more grey suits. Hire a lawyer. |

Chris phoned me right after this happened, while I did recommend a lawyer, i think dropping a line to IA is also a good idea. but don't go anonymous, tell your neighbor to stand up loud and proud when reporting this one. he does not need anonymity, he is in the right.

Before I would make any calls. I would make damn sure I was in the right and parked correctly.
Then stand tall and loud. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

Um, maybe i missed something and this is a completely pointless post.
But wasn't the car parked? So even if he was still too close to the sign, he should be getting his car paid for by the police dept. Or something along those lines.
I'd be fighting this one for sure. |

With all of the other high profile public issues PDX PD has right now, this might be the way to go:
KATU On Your Side Investigators investigators@katu.com
If the facts are as presented, this seems like meat and potatoes for channel 2. Email them and see what they say/do. A lot cheaper than a lawyer. _________________ "Are you guys ready? Let's roll."

The internet is your friend! Look up the local RCW for parking regs in your area (or have your friend do same). Hopefully your neighbor got pics before they towed the cruiser. Those could prove useful if he was legally parked. _________________ '86 Trans Am - 5.0L TPI - LT1 cam - 700R4 - WS6

I already looked up the ORS statue he was cited for. Nothing even having to do with parking or traffic, The number doesn't even exist in ORS statues. Neighbor got some pictures, and so did the ranking officer who showed up later.
A friend gave me a number for a private investigation company into police affairs. I gave a call, but opted not to give my name.
It's not my fight, but if I have to appear in court as a witness or send a deposition, I will. _________________

| What was he actually cited for? I am interested to see what they said he did that was illegal. |

If he really knows that he was right, then I would go to local news stations. Old news is no news, though, so get on it quickly.
After my uncle retired from Portand police force he became chief of police in a town near Portland. He thought it would be a good retirement job. He was wrong. Before he was done, most the officers had been replaced due to corruption and illegal activity. |
