well i dont know if anyone here knows anything about hondas but i got a friend that has a 91 civic that died on the side the road and is now sitting on a side road. so pretty much they were going up a hill and it just puttered out it turns over and fires but then dies instantly it will run for a second if u rev it but it stumbles and back fired slightly then dies. also it has been sitting for a few years and has been back on the road for only about a week.
and it has a d15b2 and we just changed the plugs and wires last night.

anyway thats all the info i have.so if anyone has an idea of somthing to check or what it could be let me know

thanks,

My experience with a similar problem is with a CRX Si. It's a D15A3, but similar to your motor. Older fuel injection setup.

The CRX would run (and die) like that when it was warmed up, but not cold. It was a blown headgasket. Have you checked the coolant and oil for signs of cross-contamination? Does yours run fine when it's cold?

The other thing to check, especially since it's been sitting for a while, is the fuel filter. It could be plugged, and it's a good idea to replace anyway. Check and make sure your fuel pump primes and pumps with the car on. You should be able to hear it running.

I would lean toward fuel. Check the fuel system.

Sounds like a dead fuel pump. I guess I'll be the first to ask, did anyone make sure there was gas in the tank?

He said it'll start and run for a second or two revved up. Maybe very low fuel? Maybe dying (almost dead) pump that can still prime but not enough flow to run the car?

Regardless, cheapest and easiest option is dump a gallon or two of gas in there and replace the fuel filter. If that doesn't work look at the fuel pump.

Good call on the out of gas check. I always assume people are aware enough to check that first. Laughing

well thanks for the help everyone but at this point i dont care about that car causes my friend wants to go and blame me for the problem with the car because he talked to some mechanic that didn't even look at the car but said im a dumb ass because when we changed the spark plugs we torqued them and that torquing spark plugs is the dumbest thing anyone could do to a car and that we completely destroyed the engine(and really how can someone say that with out even looking at it). and really how is it bad to torque something when there is a torque spec for it. in my head if there is a torque spec and you have a torque wrench, you torque it to spec but i dont know if thats just me.

This was a lot to read, but spark plugs have a slightly tapered fitting and will only tighten so much, unless you really reefed on em and stripped em out, that's definately not the problem.

Still betting on fuel. That's ridiculous. Chris is right, can't overtighten spark plugs unless you tighten them til they yank threads out of the head.

Some of those Honda plugs can be a nightmare because they seize in the aluminum heads.

That said, unless (like Chris mentioned) you pulled the threads, you didn't do anything wrong.

Don't be so sure. The idiots who stole my '94 Camaro ran it out of gas on I405. Thats where the State Patrol found them, under the hood trying to figure out why it wouldn't start! Idiots!!! Laughing Laughing Laughing

My neighbors used to have an old 70's Chevy truck, rusted to hell and back. They used it for hauling things around their yard, and only put enough gas in to run it for however long they needed it. One night it got stolen, and the thieves ran it out of gas less than a mile down the road and abandoned it. Laughing

Just because you sell them, doesn't mean they're bad... Wink

There were so many times I tried to talk people out of buying car parts it wasn't even funny. Well... kind of. My boss always just shook his head.
