As the subject states, I'm a new member here. I know quite a few of you already though through a common friend, Mark (the guy who's got a pic around of him holding Tony's hand). Mike (Schultzy89GTA) may remember me as the 'kid' who damn near shizzle his pants in the back of the GTA when he had the nitrous backfire. My main reason for joining is that I'm tired of driving an old heavy pig that gets terrible fuel mileage, and the best replacement i can think of would be a third gen f-body. Around '86-'88 Firebird with TPI, and manual trans; I don't care too much about anything else.
Well, I feel that's enough rambling on for now...

Welcome!
psst. Get a 91-92.
Thirdgen f-bods aren't that much less of fuel guzzling pigs though. They just look better. _________________

Hey Charlie!
Hope those shorts cleaned up ok. Still have a stain on my back seat though
Good luck on your search. What price range are you looking for so we can keep our eyes open?

'91-'92 is completely out of consideration. I personally hate the ground effects on them. They just ruin the lines of a beautiful car. And I am pretty sure there is no comparison of a 3rd gen to my Sprint. My Sprint (Mark used to own it untill he blew the rearend) weighs 4100 lbs with me in it, and the best fuel economy to date is 13.5mpg. I'm 95% sure a TPI car will easily do better than that.
I have sent Jess an e-mail to see if his GTA is still available, if it is I'm gonna pick that one up. If not, my price range is around $2500.
After checking Ebay, it looks like the years I'm looking for are '85-'90. But I recall that '85 was a funky year for the TPI computer, so let's just call it '86-'90.

Well if you get a 91 formula then you don't have to worry about the gfx now do you?
My old 87 never saw better than 150 miles to the tank. But then again I always had my foot in it cause the damn thing was slow.
There were many changes in the induction over those years, you should look into the differences. You may have a preference to a specific year. _________________

| I got about 15mpg with my 305 TPI and that was driving casually and had a 25mile round trip freeway excursion. |

| Well I'm somewhat heavy footed and routinely get 18 mpg with my 1987 305 TPI manual trans car. |

Welcome !
I would not discount the 85 and If I had a choice I would pick an 85 over the 86 (the 86 got the weaker camshaft) I am biased of course, we have 2 85's (LB9 & L69) but I can tell you first hand a well maintained 85 will provide you with a reasonable degree of relaibility. _________________

Welcome aboard man I think my best tank out of the 88 was 24MPG on the freeway. And once I squeezed 336 miles out of one tank... _________________ '88 Formula
