Have to sand with power till you get the primer on.
No way I'd do it by hand. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

| You'll never strip it down by hand. So I'd use something like 220 to try and feather out any scratches/chips, then step to 320 before a heavy primer. If using spray can primer you'll want to use even finer paper first. |

harbor freight has a round 5 inch electric power sander for like $25, i think i got mine fore $19.99 because it was on sale, they sell the sandpaper for it too, its like 4 sheets for $2.99 or something
you can sand the ground effects with the power sander too, just be careful, because it will sand the ground effect right down, i had to re-round some corners because of it, but its still way easier then by hand
^^sanded with that $20 power sander!! _________________ -Donald

Buy disks one inch bigger than your DA. Eats through disks faster than normal, but does better on inside curves and whatnot.
You need a sander, paint doesn't get cut down very well with elbow grease. |

Never use any power tools on body work unless you plan to take it down to bare metal or are dealing with bondo.
Never use a power tool on the plastic or rubber body work... EVER.
Starting with 220-320 is fine. Once it gets down, hit it again with 400. On the gfx you have no choice but hand. If your doing fenders etc, use a hard rubber block.
I dont suggest priming the rubber parts, but you may need to.
After primer, 400. Ive even done 600, but it was same color and out of 400. Again, also with a hard rubber block.
Ive painted plenty of cars, 1 year autobody, and 1 summer in a body shop. If you got questions, feel free to pm me. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

Prime
Long board and block sand by hand.

Depends on what your doing. From his first post it sounds like he has no real "body work" to do, other then sanding down paint. Only time I have seen/or used an air long boad used is when doing bondo work.
Sometimes, primer isnt even needed. |
