Trans 700r4 went out on my 85 Chevy Suburban. Seems straight forward. I already found a good one.

I will be replacing the upper and lower control arm bushings also. have already replaced the balljoints and tire rods idler arm within the last year.

Never done control arms on a truck before.

So maybe someone can give me some pointers.

Also going to repalce the muffler.

You should do a TPI swap while you're at it Wink Then it would be 3rd gen related! Think you have enough parts laying about? Laughing

Dont know if you took the control arms out for the ball joint swap. But the springs are compressed ALOT more on a truck, then on a camaro.

I have broken 2 sets of spring compressors before.

Took it aprt sunday and over to the machine shop. They looked at me like I was nuts. They said the bushing were good. Boy the shop the told me that they were bad. I will never go back to them again.

The machine shop has a garage iam going to take it them for the aligment.

On the positive side decided to do a edelbrock intake manifold also. My stock one no matter how many times I ahve replaced the intake gasket still leaks from the front. Me thinks it wraped.

SO have a 2101 intake coming with new gaskets. 'that will go with my 4106 edelbrock carb with electric choke.

Have been thinking about going with a serp belt set up. have one from a 88 camro complete with belt.

Would have to run and electric fan.

Okay the 700r4 trans took a dump after 1 day. Finished it up adjsuted tv cable and sems to run great drove it to get gas and around lasted 60 miles.

But trans was basically free. So that is still on a positive side.

The strange 700r4 trans Xecris sold me is going back to the shop. Did not shift right. It will be going in to the truck when its done.

What brackets are you using with what carb? Almost none of the store bought brackets will have the right tv settings. You'll burn up a trans in no time at all.

You can build you're own bracketry. There's lots of websites showing the exact geometry you need. It's alot more then just having the correct radius set up. But even that has to be EXACT.

When I converted my truck to 200 4r, I tried holley's brackets for my holley carb. They arent even close to right. Shifting was way off, comparing the geometry to my original quadrajet from my bird, you could even see it. I ended up getting frustrated and just spent the money for bowtie overdrives tv made eazy kit. It cost alot more then I wanted to spend, but the tranny works perfectly. They even give you some adjustment for shift feel.

Its a bracket that I made from the carb to where it hooks up on the eyelet on the TV cable. It worked great on my last trans over 70,000 miles so I dont think it was the issue.

It shifted great. When I installed it. No hange up after adjustment.

Got the trans on craiglist. He said it was good. But I dont have a way of knowing if it was.

Got the edlebrock intake / tv bracket. Geting the rest of the parts.
