|
|
Got my stock set down and cleaned them up. Then I used Night-Shades on them. A little darker than I wanted to go, but they look good. In the process, I found out my right side marker light is out. I haven't checked the reflectivity of the side marker lenses yet, needs to be darker outside, but a 1" strip of red reflective tape on the stripe should work for these. I don't know how I'd do the grids. Here's how they look.
Lights off...
Tail lights only...
The turn signals and backup lights are as bright, haven't checked the brake lights yet. I ran out of Night-Shades before I could do the center brake light.

The standard tail lights don't look so bad when blacked out. I don't understand what your trying to say with all that red reflective tape stuff. _________________ Richmond 3.73 posi| 36/24 sway bars | SLP LM2 | Koni's | Ground Control 800/200 | Y2K wheels | Dyno Don headers & Y-pipe | airfoil | BBK underdrive pulleys | Raised strut mounts | Extended ball joints | LCARB'S

In order to be legal, your tail lights have to have red reflectors in them (they're in the side marker lenses). With them tinted, that reflectivity is significantly reduced, I still need to check how reflective they are from another car. These are a little darker than I intended to get them, so the grids may turn out OK. |

Coming along nicely Al. Those lights will go well with the black wheels. Are the front marker lights and sidemarkers blacked as well? I can't remember. _________________

I did the grids. They turned out a little darker than I had anticipated too. Maybe the angle, but sitting face up on the box I used, they looked a whole lot lighter. Light coming in from the back I suppose. Anyway, they turned out pretty good, not perfect, but I didn't have a perfect surface to work with as these came off a junkyard car a couple of years ago.
Here they are, I did the center brake light this time too...
And with the brakes on...

Looks good, but you only did the top half. The red part was my concern for the reflector that's in there on the corner. Actually, mine aren't as dark as that picture shows. When covered by shadow, they look quite dark, but you can easily see the colors of the lenses with the sun on them. |

The ones on your Mazda are dark. I think I got these where I like them. Next will be the purple car, but there's a little more work to pull those out Something to do with a stereo system, or something like that |

Yes I can. That and the reflector on the corner lights were my main concern and why I didn't go any darker. |

Anyone find some LED lights to fit in stock spots that are ACTUALLY brighter? Most say they are but Alloy ended up with some that weren't all that bright IIRC. _________________ A redline a day keeps the carbon away! |

The only plug & play ones I found that might do the trick are like this.
They open up once you put them into the housing. They also have LEDs on the back side (though not many) to utilize the reflector.
I can't find a price for this though, but I've seen it as high as $70 per unit. |
