Trying to diagnoise this noise my car is making, it seems to be coming from the transmission, its most noticable when you start the car warm after its been sitting a few minutes, but I can also hear it when the car is close to a wall like in a drive-thru... Its like a ticka-ticka-ticka (best way to descibe it)
Anyway it's really annoying, I know what engine ticks sound like, Im pretty sure it isn't that, you really hear it under the car by the trans, could this be the torque converter?

Oh we didn't find the crack it it until we pulled the motor/trans to put a v8 in it. The crack wrapped almost 90% around the flexplate>crank bolts. It was actually kind of scary.

They do crack.

Is it louder on one side than the other?

I had the flex plate in my S10 break twice! Ended up being a cable got squished inbetween the tranny and engine when the engine was replace. Ripped the entire middle of the flexplate out where the crank bolts are. I have a picture somewhere of that.

Sounds like the tranny though. You may want to unbolt the torque converter though and see if you can see if the flexplate is good.

Im starting to think it could be cracked, I think it got louder after I tightened the torque converter bolts the other day.. Mad Thinking tightening them may have made a bigger crack?
I can't tell if its for sure louder on either side, if anything driver's side.

What would that tell you Paul?

i have to say paul is right, make sure its not an exhaust leak before you tear the whole thing apart, because A: its a PITA to take that all apart and that not be the problem and B: header bolts back out, studded or not they still will back out. i mean i thought i had some really chattery lifters a couple times and i was wrong it was my exhaust manifold bolts. just a thought...

Definetly, I checked header bolts as I do periodically anyway. Its more of a tick/rattle, not like a constant sound like noisy valvetrain or an exhaust leak.
Im pretty sure it'll all be gone by the time I get a T5 in....

You jack it up and stick your hand down by the welds of the Y-ish pipe and such to feel for a pinhole leak somewhere?
