I need help diagnosing this problem. The boat will run great on it's 2bbl 350cfm holley, but after 15 minutes of running great it will develope a problem. It will flood out at idle, bogs after 1/2 to 3/4 throttle, and will die with WOT stabs at idle. Sound like anything simple? I thought I fixed this once but this could be caused by something else. It has fresh fuel and I just cleaned the carb out completely. Any help would be greatly appreciated. _________________ E30

| I replaced the PV and it didn't change a thing. I'm thinking maybe it could be ignition related. It is consistently bad when it's warm. Maybe I have a coil going out. I've now cleaned this carb twice and it hasn't changed anything. |

| How old is the coil? And is it HEI, or Points? |

No clue as to how old everything is. Probably 10 years at best. It also has a Pertronix's D-57-2 unit that completely replaces the points. Pretty neato since it fits under the cap. If the below doesn't fix anything, I'm buying a new one of those next.
The coil looked a little wet, like maybe it was leaking a little. It is mounted on it's side too. Then when I checked a plug I managed to pull the wire out of the boot So I bought a new coil, new ballast resistor, new wires, and a new inline fuel filter. Cost me $45 after tax And last week I bought a new starter, $35 after tax. This is by far the cheapest engine I've ever worked on!
We'll see if the problem was in there somewhere. |

| Leaking coils overheat faster. You probably found the problem. Seems like most of the new coils don't like being mounted sideways. At least I see alot more leaks now then I used to. |

| Ya, the coil was the problem. It just have been overheating and at WOT I was blowing out the flame. The plugs looked fine so I'm not replacing them. |
