Check out the hits taken by Kyle Busch at the finish of the Coke Zero 400 at Daytona.

Another video that shows the last lick to the driver side door.

After all those hits, he climbs out and walks away.

He actually crossed the finish line as he took the lick to the rear. Officially, he finished 14th. Still amazing the wrecks most of these guys walk away from.

Today I was watching some show on Speed about classic Nascar drivers. The cars were actual cars, they had some in-car footage and the damn thing had an actual steering wheel. Modern stock cars suck.

yup i so agree with you . i remember watching a thing on when dale jr jumped into one of his dats cars from the late 70's early 80's and he said there was no way he could ever drive that at speed ever, hmmm guess that takes talent huh Laughing sorry i just cant satand dale jr everything he has was hand fed to him. theres only one main guy i follow and a few other in nascar and thats cause i watched them get their start in pure stock stockcars around wisconsin, and if it wasnt for Matt Kenseth i prob would have gave up on nascar long ago, the guys down to earth and just an all around good guy , i've met him plenty of times

When considering the safety of the drivers, old cars suck. I'm not a huge fan of NASCAR but you have to repect the amount of skill it takes to drive a car around at the limits of tires and dependant on aerodynamics. A wreck like that one would have at least killed a couple of drivers if they were in the old cars (and could magically attain the same speed as current cars). Amazing noone seemed really hurt after that pile up.

That's really the reason I put this up. The fact that no one was seriously injured (bumps and bruises for the most part) says something about how safe those cars are built. Where would production cars be without the innovations developed for racing??

Gheez, it's like you didn't know or something. Rolling Eyes It's actually the Camping World Series and it hasn't been to PIR since 1986.

FYI, they run about 118 dB. Our normal sound limit it 103dB. They also have multiple exhaust systems that they switch out for different tracks.

That idea was squashed in the election a couple of years ago. "Too loud," "Too much traffic," by the naysayers. They didn't take into account the revenue it could generate with events other than mainstream NASCAR. In all fairness, just building the infrastructure would have been a monumental task for the location they had planned for it.

There was an even larger motorsports center planned for oregon a few years ago too. Would have been out near Boardman. I think they ruled that I84 wasnt large enough to carry the traffic though.

They should use some of the Government Stimulus money we've got to "improve roads" to build a big circular road with banked sides. Then they could make a windy one in the middle of that circular road. I bet voters would approve that Smile

Looks like that Boardman track is still on. I see the sportsman club/track part is finished and opened this summer.. Planning a nascar oval, couple small ovals, 6mile road course, kart track, dragstrip etc.

Boardman[OR] soon to break ground on facility: It's been years in the planning, but ground will finally be broken for the speedway in Boardman [Oregon]. The tentative date for the ground-breaking ceremony is set for Oct. 18, but that could change, said Billie Jean Morris, director of marketing for Pacific Northwest Motorsports Park. The groundbreaking comes after many months of work across the state to see the park come to fruition. Earlier this summer, Gov. Ted Kulongoski signed Senate Bill 665 into law which allowed the first changes in the land use laws of Oregon since they were enacted in the 1970s, eliminating yet another barrier to the development of the 4,000-plus acre raceway destination resort. Phase I of the development will start with the construction of Pacific Northwest Motorsports Park (PNMP), the first luxury motorsports country club in the Pacific Northwest. A semi–private motorsports country club, PNMP plans to offer such things as private garage/suite lots. The garage/suites will house the club members' cars and motorcycles and provide private areas where they can entertain their guests and friends. Phase II plans include the construction of a 145,000-square-foot members' club house complex consisting of the Members Club, a semi-private clubhouse with dining room, bar, lounge and locker areas; a members only viewing deck; health club; outdoor swimming pool; golf putting green and tennis courts. Plans also include a site for the Pacific Northwest Motorsports Park Museum, which will house an exclusive collection of unique sports cars, racing cars and motorcycles and racing-industry memorabilia, which will be open to the public for an admission fee. All of that is in addition to the six-mile road course, a quarter-mile drag strip, a one-mile kart track, two small oval tracks, various racing schools and a high banked oval that will could potentially host NASCAR racing" said Gardner.(Hermiston Herald)(9-12-2007)

Boardman? Are you talking about Oregon Raceway Park that opened this season out in tim-buck-two?
