three years ago i replaced the pump in my 2.8L. and it just went out again. i hotwired the pump and nothing, so i have to replace it.

i want to do an inline pump. i'm tired of pulling the tank. i know i'm going to have to pull it to get the old pump out, so i have to pull the tank anyway, but i would be quite happy never doing it again.

anyone have any advise? will i need a AFPR? i have done research on TGO, but it seems like there is not much info.

I don't see why you would need the AFPR for an inline pump. You already have a FPR. If you're unhappy about pulling the tank just cut the hole out from the top.

You could always get a nice Walbro or something more reliable. Dunno. I think your stock FPR will be fine unless you get something completely off the chain.

yeah, a walbro would be cool. have you done this? mostly looking for some pictures of how it mounts up and stuff. what do you do inside the tank? just replace the pump with a length of rubber hose?

I have not done it. I'll drop the tank. You have lots of room to mount one though, they aren't that big.

I have read that the true acdelco corvette pumps have metal gears in them, rather then fbody plastic ones. Might want to look at that, or an aftermarket performance replacement rather then an OTC stock.

Think you've got something else going on or a bad pump.

Hacking up your lines is just asking for debris to make it's way to where it doesn't belong. When was the last time you replaced the filter? Maybe the sock fell off the pump? Where'd you get your last pump? A good walbro is only about $100 and will last.

those walbros are now made over seas and have been known for going bad now extremely fast. I would get another brand.

I thought they were all made over seas. Most parts are made over seas.

You're the first person that's mentioned one going bad.

First TGO search yeilded lots of hear-say and no facts.

Tony I know it's the 2.8 but the Racetronix stuff is good and they seem to stand behind what they sell. Popped up on TGO also, forgot about them actually. I never installed the harness. I know Mike did. I'm good for 330+ RWHP and no fuel pressure problems. Been what, two years? 3?

I had heard about walbro problems as well but actually heard people were having problems from the same eBayer than I nabbed my pump from. However, I've been beating on my walbro for 5 years?

Another happy Walbro pump owner, had on sucking gas for my car for almost 8 years.

If I remember correctly, they are made in Australia? They are pain to install becuase of logistics and are louder than stock.

i was not talking about hacking up the fuel lines. in fact if i had to do any fuel line work i was going to take that bit someplace. i SUCK at making flares. they are crooked every time.

my last pump was an AC Delco. purchased over the counter from a GM dealership. my fuel filter and sock wer replaced last summer when i replaced the fuel tank (fuel neck leak, replaced with baffled tank from a 92). the filter was parts store brand, the sock was an AC Delco.

i realy don't care how often the pump breaks if it's outside the tank. if i do an outside the tank unit i was going to buy whatever baxters sells, since they have a lifetime satisfaction guarantee on all parts. (effing crazy right?). if i go with another in-tank unit i would like something that will actually last this time.

on the up side, after having dropped a thirdgen tank three times now my last one was a 5 hour job from start to finish. that beats my first attempt which was 15 hours. Embarassed

thanks for the tips guys.

Correct. That is what I read, I do NOT have 100% conformation on that.

What I do know, is that you can run a v8 pump on a v6 motor.

Oh god, I dont even want to get started on all the "cars" I have. Most of the time I look up the part before I go. Then walk in and say I need "xx brand, xx number".
