Alright, where should I go to get my ignition lock replaced and my air/fuel mixture for my TBI adjusted? Unless one of you guys can do it and don't mind helping out a cashed-strapped crewbie Sad I am on the east end of the Metro area.

air fuel isn't really adjustable on TBI, if it is off, there is something else wrong, it may have a sensor that went bad, or just needs a tune up.

Replace the ignition lock yourself. It's cheap and you only need a few tools. Where are you located?

What are the engine symptoms? How do you know if the mixture is off?

ignition lock is pretty simple. You can have it done in a half an hour. Smile

I'm in Troutdale, OR Somebody was telling me that it needed so specialized tools, I probably should have bought and looked at the repair manual before I posted this.

The only real specalized tool I think you might need is a steering wheel puller which can be rented at Shucks or Autozone.

If you have an aftermarket wheel, I have one that I put together to get my Grant wheel off, that you could borrow.

Steering wheel lock tool also.

The only other tool you need to take apart a Saginaw column besides screwdrivers, sockets and torx, is the Pivot Pin Puller. It's cheap too but not needed to get to the lock cylinder.

Alright, so I got the steering wheel of with a puller and the plastic cover that is behind it, but now I am down to a metal wheel that is keeping me from getting to the turn signal and lock cylinder. How should I remove this little metal menace? I've pryed at it with an assortment of tools so I am wondering if there is a special tool for it also.

Install tool, to depress the lock plate. Use two picks or small screw drivers to pull the snap ring out of the groove.

You can rent the lock plate tool as autozone or schucks. The lock ring it a pain to get off, but that's the only really tough part. A couple of small screwdrivers and you got it.

and here is another question that probably has an obvious answer

I got the lock plate tool and compressed the plate, which exposes the ring that I need to remove, I can rotate it in the grove, but how do I get it to slide up onto the lock plate adapter?

I managed to force a large flathead under my thumbnail trying. Embarassed Crying or Very sad

alright, snap ring and the green plate are removed, I am down to the white plate that is manipulated by the turn signal arm, I've taken the springs and screw out of it, but it also wont budge. I need to remove it so I can get to the ignition lock.

I think there are 3 screws. 2 of which you get to by turning the signal one way then the other. It also helps to unplug the harness down by the pedals and push the wires up the column. You dont really want to pull them out, just push the switch up enough to get to the screw for the tumbler.

Don't pull the springs out! Just the 3 screws like Chevymad said. One extra screw for the turn signal actuating cam!

forget when it comes into play, but you need to undo the one screw in the hazard switch also
and if you have tilt, tighten upthe 3 tilt screws while you have it apart
