Well, I've been reduced to 20hr work weeks for about a month, so I decided I was going to pull the tired 305 outta the RS. The valves were leaking oil, it was making about 10 mpg, and the catalytic was plugged up. It would have cost me a fortune to fix all of it. Anyway, I pulled the built motor out of my '86, and attached it to the front end of my rebuilt 700r4. I am almost done with it, just have to build an exhaust, put fluids back into the motor/trans, gas in the tank, install a battery, and start tryin to fire it up . Also swapped wheels/tires between the car, so the RS is wearing Moderns until I can get new tires for the stock rims.
With this swap, I...
-Pulled out the intank fuel pump and pickup, installed a carb'd pickup.
-Pulled ECU and wiring harness (have to figure out how to get the AC working again, I suppose. Down the road!)
-Got the new throttle bracket deal so I can hook up the TV cable and not eat the new 700r4.
-Whole lot of cursing.
Will end up getting some high-flow cats before the end of summer so I don't pollute too much. Exhaust is going to be dual Flowmaster 40s, ground clearance be damned. Motor is a 383 with forged internals, larger intake/exhaust valves, Edelbrock intake/carb, cheapy flowtech headers, and some other odds and ends. Hopefully I'll be pretty happy with this thing now . And a picture of the bike that has been being neglected the last few weeks due to this. Those of ya interested, enjoy! | Make sure you have something rigged for torque convertor lock up, unless you installed a non lockup kit. On a 700 when the convertor is unlocked alot of the fluid that is supposed to go through the tranny cooler doesnt. No idea why chevy built it this way, cause its bass ackwards. |

At the moment it is just a toggle switch with a light to remind me it is on, will be ordering up a lockup kit at NorthernAuto or something in the near future, though. If I can ever get the bike sold, I will hopefully get a cowl hood (little rise) and have it all painted up. _________________ 1991 Camaro RS - 454 BBC |

Got her running today! But have a couple issues now :\ . The fuel is boiling in the carb, even with a 1" alu spacer in it. And the transmission, even though I got the corrector arm on the carb, and I also have to try to find a way to tuck the exhaust just a little higher up to the car. It doesn't drag on anything until I hit the speedbumps in my apartment complex (there is no way those things can be up to any code). Is there any way to lift the back end of our cars up a little? Other than that, it gets up and goes pretty good. Gotta recheck timing, too.
I had trans issues with it a few weeks ago, but changed out fluid/filter and readjusted the TV cable, and it seemed to do better until I hooked it up to this motor. I got the corrector arm for the Edelbrock carb, but I don't think it is pulling out right. After I installed the corrector arm, I did readjust the TV cable. I am pretty sure it is the bracket, now. The cable does not pull in a straight line. Any ideas on what bracket to use with a 700r4 Carb'd motor? Not gonna drive it until I get that issue solved . _________________ 1991 Camaro RS - 454 BBC |

Can clear the intake/spacer/air cleaner now, figured I'd post that up now. Also put in a posi unit I got from Bruce's parts 88 Iroc. Almost getting there with 'er, just need to paint it one of these weekends and fix my windshield, then I'm golden  _________________ 1991 Camaro RS - 454 BBC |

Nice! I used an Edelbrock universal cable adapter on mine. It has slides so you can adjust it up, down, back, forth. Works great on my TH400 with a tall air-gap intake and worked supurb on my stock low rise intake. _________________ E30

Trans burned the 3/4 pack . Is ok, though, got one off of Bruce, will be putting that in this weekend, and getting mine rebuilt by a reputable shop, rather than the CL special, hehe. Someone here inspired me to try the 468ci swap, picking up a good 454 this weekend with any luck! Might be a winter project, we'll see.
Few more weeks of overtime, and than I take off a week and get this sucker painted. Been a while since I've had to fire up the compressor and HVLP. I'm thinking black with met. blue stripes (same color I used on my bike). Hoping for the best there _________________ 1991 Camaro RS - 454 BBC |
