i recieved this email from my coworker, a man in need:
Quote:
my 89 lebaron needs A lot of help. It needs a new transmission+Torque converter. The turbo was good when it was parked… 3 years ago. The Compression on the cylinders was alright before it was parked, but I suspect it was misfiring when under boost even though A/F was in the perfect spot. It has a few other minor quirks about it that I need to get checked out. Hoses, hard lines, belts, check out the water pump and oil pump. I want to get a Trans Cooler in there. (hell if I could get an intercooler on it, I'd be happy as hell, but I don't think I'm that lucky for time). The main thing is make it driveable and get it through DEQ. If I can do that, I'm happy as long as it runs for a while. The car was kicked off of its jack stands (though the landlord swears it just 'fell over' one day, no mention of the boot print I found in the side of it.) I am willing to pay and provide refreshment and food (refreshment = Beer for those over 21, food = just tell me what you like after working hard on a car.) It also needs new axles in there too as one is broken and the boots were shredded. hope you can help me find someone who is willing to jump in to a doomed mission.

-Will

he has a rebuilt transmission and new TC. also has some new axle parts to put in. a LeBaron is a dodge front wheel drive turbo car (turbo mopar engine, not izuzu). car has been sitting as long as i have known him, he is moving in two weeks and it needs to be roadworthy by then. he has tried several shops, both trustworthy and not. most give the brush off right away, others refuse to touch it since the work has already been started.

i have told him i have the ability to put it together if i am provided a manual. but when it comes to transmission installs the more the merrier. there may be some cash involved as well, i am looking into that.

speak up crewbies. work is to be done this Saturday and Sunday. possibly next weekend too if we screw it up that bad. i definitely need some help on this one.

EDIT*
email me or call my cell 971-645-9359

EDIT**
car in willsonville. i am coming from hillsboro and can pick you up.

I'd help, but I'm at work this weekend in the afternoons. Also I have no experience with doing a FWD tranny, so I wouldn't want to screw it up and have blame fall on me.

You really need an upper engine support. Or the car in the air about 3ft high and the engine supported with stands.

Do you think a cherry picker would be sufficent to hold the motor?

If so I have one you could borrow here, tony. Also need to get your steering puller back to ya soon.

Cherry picker will probably work if it reaches high enough. You'll definatly need to get the car waay in the air.

a few years ago when the project was started it was up on stands, about 9 months ago some other resident pushed it over, it has been sitting on the transmission pan ever since. the amount of moss and crap on the ground around the car is ridiculous.

but it worked. Shrug

well, pending the rebuild finishing today we are back at it tomorrow.

anyone want in? in addition to replacing the tranny we are also throwing a tune up at it, and a new main seal, new transaxle shafts, and a few new bolts we rounded taking things apart.

I had an '89 lebaron coupe that I sold recently and have done a few engine/transmission swaps on various fwd turbo mopar stuff...

anyways, if you haven't dug into it yet, I learned a trick from the turbododge message boards-

its easiest to put a jack under the engine and then drop the trans down to the ground with with engine hoist....then you can lift the front of the car up (with the engine supported, i used some boards and a chain to hold it in place while the front was lifted) and pull the trans out while the car is being held up in the air, and then put it back in the same way.
