I think they must be stupid.
They say that if the car is cooler from the start, then the A/C will run less. Well if it were me, then the A/C would run the exact same. Because it would make no difference to me whether the interior is 140 deg or merely 110 deg. either way I'm gonna start the A/C and leave it running for my entire 30 min. commute.
They cite buildings architecture as a motivating factor. Stating that modern buildings with more thermally reflective surfaces require less energy to cool than older buildings. What these morons don't seem to take into account is the fact that buildings don't just sit there with their A/C units off for 90% of the day heating up. No sir, they are running 24/7 and therefore the interior of the building never reaches 140 deg in direct sunlight then is asked to cool it down to 76 deg. And therefore a building with better thermal properties will be more efficient through out the day. A car would also be more efficient under the same conditions if we left the A/C on 24/7. The car would never have to have the A/C run full blast, A quite whisper of cool air would keep it comfortable. Course you would need a tanker trunk in every driveway with an IV line straight to the intake....
My lord they are stupid down there. |

| Sadly enough, I am actually not surprised that Kalifornia would try something like this. |

x2.
Why don't they allow dual pane glass and tinted front windows? Just by a rough guess a tinted front window could add almost 25% to the reflected surface. Not to mention glass has a poor R value so adding a dual pane window in a car would help significantly. Bentleys had them. _________________ E30

That's exactly what I thought reading that. I own a black car. It used to have AC, now it's doesn't. I NEVER have a problem with it. It's called a window switch.
Damn lazy American's only roll down their window at the driveup. I see so many people driving around with all their windows up all the time. Stupid. Try experiencing things around you. The inside of your car can't smell that good.
Oh well, used car prices will start going up once emission laws start going into effect. If Detroit thinks no one wants their junk now, just wait till everyone is driving a puke-colored Prius. |

In Cali even when you roll down the window you get hot air blowing over your face. Not necessarily what your typical person wants to feel. Definitely not cooling in any way. |
