|
|
Just read a couple pretty funny spoofs kids have learned to do to radar and red light cameras. I dont have a link to the first one, but it seems some high school kids have figured out you can print a fake plate on glossy photo paper.. tape it on over your regular plate, then either speed by a radar van, or red light camera. The camera will think the plate is genuine and send a ticket to whoevers number it is. So of course they're doing it to people they dont like, teachers, whoever.
And here's one thats even better..

That's pretty funny. They were obviously caught, otherwise the article wouldn't have been printed. _________________ 92 Camaro

There are vans used by the Beaverton Police here that have cameras, they park in random places to get speeders... _________________

Funny
But this just proves how many flaws are in this system. Whos to say you loan your car out, and they drive thru one. Ticket gets issued to YOU, not the operator.
Or what about an 18-20yo who still drives a car liscensed to there parents. The parents get the ticket, again, not the operator. _________________ 2008 GMC Z71

I've always wondered about those things too. If I got one of those I would just plead not guilty. Let the local police prove that I was driving. Not that the car was being driven too fast. If they want to send the car the ticket then they may certainly do so, and wait till the car pays the ticket. otherwise they must try to find the operator of the car, and that may not necessarily be the registered owner. Where they probably get so many people is when the owner admits that no one else was driving it. My answer would be the 5th. Let them prove their case through a costly investigation in an effort to raise 50.00. even if I lose they lose bigger.
I have spent the last couple years in and out of court for things I won't get into here, and let me say that the state isn't nearly as well prepared as you might think they are most of the time. They in fact rely on you, the defendant to help them. The 4th and 5th amendments are your friend. The 21st is nice too |

Hey now, that's not the Christmas spirit
Actually, this is yet another of those increasing number of areas where you are guilty until proven innocent. You could show up and tell them to prove that it was you, but in Oregon you would be SOL. That is just not the way that they were able to pass the laws.
Methinks we aren't paying close enough attention.

Not so... What other reason do you think Santa wears those big black boots? Look really carefully and you'll see that the right boot has the general shape of elf butt on the toe. |

Well you would need a good lawyer willing to drag that pesky ol' constitution in to it. the 10th amendment my well be used to explain to a court exactly why the 4th and 5th need to be considered.
Of course the 10th is intentionally meant to limit the federal governments powers, but it may still be able to be used.
I don't intentionally speed or run red lights any way, but as a truck driver whose pay check depends on my license, you better believe I would fight that kind of ticket with every fiber in me. Its not about the money either, its about the lively hood. Imagine if any of you guys would be kicked out of your very career field if caught 10 over, I bet every one would be less likely to just pay up. Remember paying the fine without a court date is an admission of guilt. Aint no robot camera gonna ever get me to put my lively hood on the line without a fight.
And qwktrip if your comment was directed at me then let me say that your tax money isn't wasted on me fighting a ticket. Its wasted on me defending and exercising my rights. 6th and 7th amendments. if me defending my rights is a waste that is. Your money is wasted on traffic cameras that are clearly unenforceable under our system of government. Those cameras are nothing more than evidence. A better use would be to have an officer pull you over, write the ticket and in court produce the photos showing the car running the light and with the officers testimony that it was in fact you behind the wheel. Open and shut slam dunk case that way otherwise its like if your next door neighbor is shot with a 12 gauge shotgun, did I do it just because I own one?? not necessarily but it is evidence. did I run a red light because my car did?? I'll say not guilty and let you prove that I did. A waste?? maybe to you, but think of all the money saved by the lack of snow removal. |

| FYI - Those camera-based tickets, including red light cameras, are not moving violations and do not show up on your driving record. They're basically expensive parking tickets. |

I'm not sure that's true in every state. _________________ Picture of 'Scort goes here |

You're absolutely correct. California is one of those states (along with OR, it sounds). There (in CA), they typically have to have a clear and direct photograph of the driver committing the offense if the violation goes to court. The cameras that they use in these traps are actually quite incredible.
Unlike Mike, I didn't look so fabulous in my Speed Photo California Edition, and they were kind enough to send me a warning (instead of a ticket) along with a very unclear photo of me. The top half of my head was cut off by the sun visor.
We can hope that OR would have similar rules in place, as it seems not having such rules would clearly reverse where the burdon of proof lies.
One of y'all down there ought to look into it more thoroughly and find out exactly what's required for the violation to stick, since you say it does go on your record.
And Brandy, I've still got your shoes sitting in my closet waiting for you to claim them...
(Paul, she left 'em here at the BBQ, I swear!) |

So the cameras are good enough to get a face shot? Maybe I need to buy a nice mask next halloween and wear it when I drive |

| Modern traffic cameras are excellent. I think Myth Busters did an episode and found all the old tricks to distort the image don't work any longer. |
