Here is my 'maro story and how I found this site.

My sisters boyfriend was getting rid of his Red 89 305 TBI RS camaro, because he just bought an 2005 Ford Focus. (TRAITOR!) I thought to myself, a Camaro would be a major upgrade from my Toyota Tercel. Problem was that the car was in Baker City with a bad flywheel, and I live in Troutdale.

I decided to go and get the car anyways, but a week before we were set to leave, I got laid off. I had 900 saved up. Against my better judgement I decided to go get the car anyways. We made it there fine, but once we got there the car wouldn't start. The fuel pump was burnt out. I spent 42 bucks on a new fuel pump, but it still wouldn't work. I bypassed the relay and the pump worked.

The injectors wouldn't work while cranking though, and the flywheel was still bad, but we could rotate the flywheel to a good spot to catch, and use spray to start the injectors. We decided to drive the car back at that point.

We made it is far as pendleton and stopped at a Burger King right off of the highway. We went in for the food and when we came out we couldn't get it running, the starter wouldn't catch on the flywheel, even after 2 hours of trying.

At that point I had to have it towed to a local tranny shop where they charged 350 in labor, 50 for the tow and 72 for the flywheel. Plus I had to wait 3 days.

I come back 3 days later, going from portland to pendleton. We got it running and and we got it back after 2 more fixable breakdowns.

But I encountered one more problem when I took the car for a spin on the Senic Columbia River highway (The old highway that I-84 replaced) I ended up going into a ditch, while high centering on the edge of the road. that is where I met another member, Quasi-Traction. He tried to get me out. and in the process, told me about the Crew.

So thats my story, Now you guys know what I am willing do do for a V-8 Rolling Eyes

oh yeah,

New starter,
needs a new muffler
needs a new radiator overflow tank

All of which are easily fixable so i didn't mention them before

But yeah, I think it WILL be worth it, I have hope for what it can be.

Well I got the starter covered, But I do need a muffler and an overflow tank

I may just get those at an auto store, but if someone has some spares around portland, id consider buying those

That's quite a story bro. In the long run it would have probably been cheaper to hire a flatbed to haul it out, and then just done the work at home. But there's still nothing better than driving your knew junk home.

BTW, why not just roll start it when the starter wouldn't catch?

oh man i have stories like that from when i first bought mine. Many of the members can tesitfy to how bad is ran how many times i broke down. But trust me, when you get it running right and can enjoy it on a regular basis, It will be worth it.

You just gotta hang in there and get the work done.

It was worth it. When she is all dialed in you have a great horror story that it all started with.

Thanks for sharing. Welcome to the Crew.

It's an auto tranny, I thought you can only do it with a manual.

My mistake. You mentioned it needing a flywheel, so I assumed it was a manual. Your auto actually uses a flexplate.

GM calls them both flywheels for some reason, go figure. Rolling Eyes

Welcome to the crew dude. I managed to get a decent runner, but it now has developed some major paint issues. I have no garage to work on it, and no alternate transportation, so I'm seriously weighing my options. The worst case may be I end up trading or selling. Sad

A flywheel stores energy by it's inertia (weight) and helps to smooth out the engine during operation, and keep the clutch from lugging the engine badly during clutch engagement.

A flex plate just provides a mechanical means to bolt the torque converter to the engine, and holds the ring gear that the starter meshes with.

Now that I'm done stating the obvious I'll return you to your regular programming. Wink
