I have been fighting a problem on the TA and I thought I should hit up the knowledge here before I put the car away for the winter unfixed.
The windows (both of em) will only go up for afew inches, then it stops, after a few minutes I can get em to go up abit more, almost like something is getting too hot or something.
It is happening in both windows, but it is seperate in a way.
Once one window won't go up any more, I do the other side and it will go up its little bit also.
So to me, that says if it is a wiring problem, it is after the power is devided to the two switches.
I have checked the ground under the center console, and tried new switches.
Any other ideas before the car goes away for the winter?

Thanks!
Thats where I am leaning, but it seemed odd to me that they both started doing it on the exact same day.
Althought it had just been brought out from storage and then this started afew days later, so who knows, I guess I will go tear the panels back off tomorow and see if it works normal by just putting power to the motor itself.
Any more ideas are welcome, I am running out of days before it goes away _________________

Same thing happened to my wifes pontiac transport on the passanger side. Finally it died all together. so after some disassembly now the window is held up with a piece of 2X4 wedged under it.
Mostly just to keep rain out since it isn't driven any more. too many other problems with it and another vehicle with no problems means its fine with....
Any way the point is that what you describe is exactly the way they seem to circle the drain |

You may want to try to upgrade your wiring for windows as well. Old wiring may have broken or dissintegrated a bit. This would cause it to ohm out okay but as soon as you throw some current through it they will raise their resistance. Those motors are pretty stout and draw lots of current. I've heard of people increasing their rollup speed considerably by doing a wire upgrade. If you do, 10awg should be an improvement. _________________ E30

I was going to post this. Upgrade the wiring while you have it all out! I'd just mount a relay either in the kick panel or door itself and run thicker wiring the whole way.
I've used a couple different brands of motors in my bird. Cardone reman was okay and like stock. Then I tried a Siemens(sp?) brand new unit which was only a couple bucks more. Wow. What a difference. No only did the case seem better put together it has a lot less noise coming from the motor itself (I replaced both sides around the same time with cardone, and then later with the new units). The new ones also seemed to work faster. |
