I have Hella conversion low beam housings in my car with 9003 Silver Star's in them, and the low beams really suck. I'm thinking of a HID style conversion, but want some feedback before taking the leap.

This is a kit I'm considering.

I found with the Pilot housings I have that the cutoff for the beam made it appear really dim farther out from the car. I ended up adjusting the low beams up (a few days at 1/4 turn on the adjustment screw each morning on my commute) until I was comfortable with the beam and no one complains. I probably could go up a little more yet. If I put the stock sealed beams in again, I'm sure I'll be offending oncoming drivers.

I put in the Wagner TruView 9003 bulbs and I'm quite satisfied with them, I don't know the Kelvin output, but they're more white than the sealed beams without appearing blue. On my highs (the inside pair), I wired both filaments together to also have a low beam on and it's like daylight when I hit the brights. Cool

Al, I tried the tru-views in Debs toyota when they first came out. Seemed very dim and underpowered to me. I switched to the Wagner BriteLights. Much stronger and very white beam. Weird deal, I think the old school sealed beam brite lights in my firebird are actually brighter then the 9006 type in the yota. I had many people flashing their brights at me until i aimed them down.

I've got a set of regular 9006's, and a set of TrueView 9006s that are brand new, if anyone can use them.

Thanks B. I might have to give them a try when I burn these out. I'm looking for some good H3 bulbs now to go in the driving & fog lights.

Where I've gotten most all of my lights over the years. From the Hella projectors to the current h4 Osram bulbs

In generic parts store h4 conversion that work amazingly well with an upgraded harness/relays.

Alloy, unless you plan to retro projectors into the conversion housings I wouldn't bother with an HID setup. Yes they look cool but the beam pattern leaves something to be desired.

I've already made a custom harness with relays and I'm getting full battery power to the lights. I'm just tired of how dim they are. Even with the silver Stars they really suck. My old sealed beams were better but I really don't want to go back to them, rather upgrade somehow.

Silverstars seem to be just a whiter/bluer bulb than a normal Halogen. I'd go with something that has a higher actual lumen output. Do the Hella housings have a fluted front lens or is it clear?

I'm using the silverstar H4 bulbs in mine. I switcheed from the more expensive PIAA's after I burned through 2 sets in less than a year. The PIAAs we're brighter, but the Silverstars are still pretty decent. I do find the coloring is not exactly what I'd like on rainy nights however. In the dry they are fantastic, in the wet, they seem to not have quite enough contrast for my taste. I don't have fog/driving lights and may upgrade to those to get that extra little bit I'm looking for.
